Journal Prompt-When Did You Experience Joy This Week?

Image
When asked when did I experience joy this week my mind goes directly to my grandchildren.  I had the opportunity to help my daughter out with the kids this week.  Now that we are under all of the COVID 19 restrictions the kids are in virtual school.  Caleb had to pick up all of his school supplies on a specific day and at a specific time.  Both his parents were working and I had some free time and I was happy to fill in. First I had to pick up Caleb from a camp school he is attending.   I waited for him to leave his class for at least ten minutes.  Time was irrelevant when Caleb saw me and burst away from his attendant and ran to me shouting "Nana".  For me, those moments are more precious than gold.  They warm my heart. We drove from there to his school.  Caleb proceeded to tell me about his day thus far.  We arrived at his school and he was very excited to meet his teacher, all of us in our COVID masks, she was so nice and Caleb ate it up and so did I.  Caleb received in

Journal Prompt-What was your last "Bad Day" and what did you learn from the experience?

Image
My last bad day was worse than bad it was awful.  It all started with a dog that I knew I could not handle but ended up watching her anyway and, the day went drastically downhill from there. I have had animals all my life.  As a kid, we had horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and probably others that I can't remember.   I love animals, but every once in a while, one comes along that you know you are best to avoid and, you do so.  We had a mix of personalities in our horses, none of which I would call friendly but several I loved and rode, I understood them and knew how to handle them.  Yes, I still came away with bites and also bruises from being bucked off and a few kick marks, but I accepted the challenge with them and, it was all in a day's work.  There was one horse I knew to avoid, Trigger.  Trigger had been abused, and it took a skilled understanding rider to handle Trigger, and that was my dad.  I could pet Trigger and spend time with him, but I knew I could not ri

There is a Rodeo in Raleigh NC Carousel Farms

Image
Did you know you can go to a rodeo in Raleigh NC?  Yep, you can, every Tuesday night from May-September Carousel Farms has a rodeo with bull riding and barrel racing.   Here is what they say on their website... "From action packed professional bull riding to fast paced barrel racers, you have a chance to get up and personal with some of the best cowboys and cowgirls on the east coast. Many thanks for visiting our web site; come on out and see us at the arena on Tuesday nights."  No, I did not ride the mechanical bull.  Would you?  The Flag Girls  Barrel Racing  During intermission people were invited into the arena for The Chicken Dance.   My favorite part, the Bull Riding  The Cowboys I had a really nice time at Carousal Farms.  So if you would like to go a rodeo and you live near Raleigh I suggest you give Carousal Farms a try.  It is a cash only venue.  The night I went the cost was $9.00 admission and parking is free.

Journal Prompt-What is the Scariest Thing You Have Ever Done

Image
When I think back to one of the scariest things I have ever done, one event comes immediately to mind. What is that, you ask? Parasailing in the Caribbean.  I remember signing up for the parasailing ride. You could have so much time for a specific amount of money, or you could go further if you pay for more time. Never having parasailed before, I opted for the extended trip. This event happened decades ago, and I can remember my husband, at the time, being terrified at the thought of this activity because he was afraid of heights. I, on the other hand, was raring to go. I remember standing on the platform where I was to suit up for the event. The guides spoke in their native tongue, and I had no clue what they were saying. They were placing me in a harness as I waited desperately for some type of instruction. I finally said, "what do I do?" and the next sentence out of one guide's mouth was, "hold on, lady!" The moment my guide spoke those words, I was pulled ro

Travel and Adventure-Let's Check Out the New Wegman's in Cary NC

Image
I remember my very first visit to Wegmans .  My daughter and her husband were living in Quantico VA. and there was a Wegmans nearby.  She took me shopping there once and I was hooked.  Every time I would visit Stephanie we would visit Wegmans. I was on a trip with the Road Scholars several years ago.  One night was a free night for the group and someone said they were going to the very first Wegmans and I said "can I come?"  So off we went to a Wegmans in upstate NY.  Here is a link that can fill you in on more of their history... Wegmans Wegmans has a lot to offer.  There are so many different departments to check out.   If you have a Wegmans near you be sure and pay them a visit. We are going today!

Try a Chapter of My Next Five Books to be Read

Image
I saw a YouTube video where the person was doing a "Try a Chapter." They would read on a chapter of the book and give you their views of what they had read. I decided that it would be fun and thought, let's do it for my next five books on my reading list.  It will give me a taste of each book. My Next Five Books Try a Chapter You can check out my youtube video below *************************************************************************** "Tears of Salt A Doctor's Story of the Refugee Crisis" by Pietro Bartolo and Lidia Tilotta                    On the cover of this book, we learn that a rocky island called Lampedusa ( Lampedusa  is the largest island of the Italian Pelagie Islands in the Mediterranean Sea)  is the location for the port of call for hundreds of thousands of African and Middle Eastern refugees fleeing civil war and terrorism in hopes of a better life.  The first chapter of the book called Mare nostrum gives us a glimpse of a memory of the

Journal Prompts-What Currently Brings You Joy?

Image
What currently brings you joy and happiness?  (Aug 2020) I am a divorced currently unattached 60 plus-year-old woman. So what brings me joy at this point in my life? As I think back over my life, I find that joy over the years has come in many shapes and experiences.   When I was a child, I would find joy in playing with the family dogs, spending time with friends, and watching cartoons.  As I got older, I found joy in riding horses, singing in church, getting a phone call from a boy.  As I became a young woman, I found joy in dating, travel, and the hopes of finding the love of my life. Things have changed over the years.  The person that I thought was the love of my life betrayed me, the church that I loved disappointed me and turned its back on me because of a divorce I wanted nothing to do with.   You could be led to believe that there is no joy in this tragic life, but that would not be true.  There is so much that now brings me joy.  I have the joy of my children and now my grand

Quote of the week Books As far as books I am reading this week I just finished Watching You and I will be reading Obsessed next.  Watching you was pretty good I gave it a 3.5.  There was a murder and many twists and turns that I did not see coming.  I would not call it an edge of your seat book but I did find it intriguing and I looked forward to reading it at night. I read the prolog and part of the first chapter for my post on Try a Chapter.  I was sucked in by the intensity of the voice in this girl's head and I find myself wanting to learn more about OCD.  I will be posting my "Try a Chapter soon on my YouTube Channel. Company is Coming There has been a lot of Jane time this week which I love.  I watch her while Erica does a bit of real estate work.   I will get to see her a lot more now because Josh, Erica, and Jane are moving in.  They are selling their house to build a new house about 45 minutes from here.  They did not want two house payments and the real estate market

Travel and Adventure-The Museum of Life and Science in Durham NC

Image
I love the Museum of Life and Science in Durham NC.  I have been going there for years.  Initially, it was with my kids and now with my grandkids.  There have been some changes due to COVID 19 but it still remains a fun place for kids and adults alike.  Sadly the butterfly house and the indoor portions of the museum are closed.  You can still access parts of the treehouse except for the higher portions of the treehouse which was a huge disappointment for my grandson but we found other fun things to do.  The train was running.  There are now plexiglass partitions between the seats.  The conductor now leads you to your seats and makes sure there is a gap seat between guests.   It was still a fun ride.  You are not allowed to scream in the tunnel anymore which was always a joy for Maggie and a museum tradition.  We decided we would silent scream.   One of my favorite new additions to the museum was The Wild Earth Moves.  Here the kids had a chance to enjoy some water exhibits.  Next time
