Travel/Places-The Cotton House in Cary NC

Image
It has been a while since I first posted this, long before Covid, when everything shut down.  Luckily, COVID did not shut them down.  I can't wait to return.  Here is an old post from some time ago...enjoy! I have been to the Cotton House in Cary twice.  Once on a food truck night with Erica and Josh and another time with a friend. Their primary focus is beer, but luckily for me, they have wine, too; happy day. The venue is a historic home built in 1900. There is plenty of seating, both inside and out. I tried to find some information on this piece of sculpture, but I could not.  It is beautiful and extremely detailed.  I did see an old photo of the house with a tall stump of a tree in the yard.  So, I will assume that someone made a lovely carving out of the stump. Food Trucks and Mayton Inn The first time I visited the Cotton House was on an evening they had a food truck.   The truck for the evening was The Humble Pig . ...

Restaurant Review BJ's Restaurant and Brew House in Cary NC

Image
I love Meetup Groups.  Why you ask.  Because in Meetup groups you get to meet new people and explore new places.  I am in one very active group, and one thing they like to do is go out to eat.  Happy Day, so do I. Last night I went with a group to BJ's Restaurant and Brew House in Cary, NC.  What fun.  BJ's is located in the Centrum @ Crossroads shopping center in Cary.  For me, it was easy to find, and the parking was easy, which is always a plus. The venue, I thought, was impressive. I liked this artistic display.  I think the silhouettes are making beer? BJ's is a large open restaurant with plenty of seating and a lovely bar. Their menu is extensive, and there is much to choose from. I had the Atlantic Salmon Oven Roasted- Oven-roasted or blackened salmon fillet | lemon chardonnay butter sauce | rice pilaf | steamed broccoli My seatmate had a burger... The person across from me had the Shrimp Scampi, which she loved. Her plan was to eat half ...

Piedmont Farm Tour....Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm, Blast From the Past-When we were allowed to travel.

Image
Time for the 21st annual Piedmont Farm Tour. I have been on the tour one other time and I was excited to check out a few farms this year. It was held on Saturday and Sunday so we went out both days. There were 38 farms on the tour. We were able to visit 4..... Caleb, Erica, and Kathiey's farm adventure. The first farm on our list was a buffalo farm in Roxboro. Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm As we arrived we saw the buffalo in the field. It was at some distance but they were amazing. The storm clouds were moving in as we drove up the road to check in for our adventure. We made it to the gazebo just in time. It poured. No worries though. We enjoyed a buffalo burger while sitting beside a beautiful lake. Life is good. (Caleb wanted nothing to do with the burger. He had chips:-) Caleb and Erica ventured down the trail to get a bit closer to the buffalo. After this visit, Caleb was able to add the term cow pie to his vocabulary. Although, I guess it w...

Afternoon Tea at The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary NC

Image
(This post is a "Blast From the Past" from 2017) Stephanie, Erica, and I wanted to go on an adventure.  We like tea so we decided to try Afternoon Tea at the Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary. Here are a couple of quotes from their website... "Afternoon Tea is served in the lobby lounge, situated amongst the art adorned walls, enhanced by the hotel's Dale Chihuly glass sculpture. Afternoon Tea is a welcoming and elegant way to spend an afternoon socializing." "Afternoon Tea is served Wednesday - Sunday from 2:30-4:00pm."  "Live harpist accompaniment adds to the soothing environment."  Click for a PDF of the menu along with the types of tea they serve.  I chose Earl Grey Tea.  It was lovely.  I think tea sandwiches are so much fun.  I don't know if I could pick a favorite they were all delicious. After the tea sandwiches, we were served a variety of scones. Yummy.  And yes, if you were wondering, we ate all of those to...
