A Visit to The Museum Park at the NCMA of Raleigh NC

Image
Museum Park a the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh NC. When you drive past the NCMA in Raleigh you can see several sculptures from the roadway.  I decided it was high time I checked out The Museum Park. Quote from the NCMA website... "The Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park connects art, nature, and people to encourage creative experiences and human interactions. It features temporary and permanent public art installations by international artists, environmentally sustainable landscapes, colorful and contemporary gardens, miles of recreational trails, and a terraced pond." According to the park brochure, there are 28 works of art in this park.  I viewed 15.  I will have to go back and find the sculptures that I missed. The park itself is lovely.  There are walking trails, areas to picnic, and of course artwork.  It made for a pleasant stroll on this beautiful spring day. I saw folks relaxing on benches, a family picnic under...

Travel/Places-The Cotton House in Cary NC

Image
It has been a while since I first posted this, long before Covid, when everything shut down.  Luckily, COVID did not shut them down.  I can't wait to return.  Here is an old post from some time ago...enjoy! I have been to the Cotton House in Cary twice.  Once on a food truck night with Erica and Josh and another time with a friend. Their primary focus is beer, but luckily for me, they have wine, too; happy day. The venue is a historic home built in 1900. There is plenty of seating, both inside and out. I tried to find some information on this piece of sculpture, but I could not.  It is beautiful and extremely detailed.  I did see an old photo of the house with a tall stump of a tree in the yard.  So, I will assume that someone made a lovely carving out of the stump. Food Trucks and Mayton Inn The first time I visited the Cotton House was on an evening they had a food truck.   The truck for the evening was The Humble Pig . ...

Travel-Ayr Mount In Hillsborough NC Part 3-The Interior

Image
I am back in Hillsborough, NC, this post visiting the lovely Ayr Mount. Let's take a look at what I found inside of this home. I will share the adventure with my photos. I will place little tidbits of information about the house between the photos. After having walked the Poet's Walk and explored the Outside of Ayr Moun t, it was time to take a step inside this lovely historic home.  Ayr Mount is a Federal-era plantation house built in 1815 in Hillsborough, North Carolina, by William Kirkland. Kirkland was from Ayr, Scotland. I have read that the ceilings are anywhere from 12-14 feet tall.   I remember asking about the photos of Indians that were found on the lower level of the house.  They said the photos were taken from a book and framed and put on display. A few other photos I found on the wall of this historic home. Ayr Mount was the first residence in the area built of brick. The furniture in the home was beautiful. I love this side table with the claw feet. Looking...
