Entertainment Wrap-Up for April 2024. What Are You Watching and Reading?

Image
Hi, and welcome to my entertainment wrap-up for April 2024.   Books 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 Starling House by Alix E. Harrow I listened to this book on Audible. The narrator did a nice job, but the book's content was a different story. I finished it and gave it a 3 out of 5 on my reading scale. Genre is Fantasy, Horror, Gothic, Fiction, Romance, Mystery. Overview from Goodreads A grim and gothic new tale from author Alix E. Harrow about a small town haunted by secrets that can't stay buried and the sinister house that sits at the crossroads of it all. Eden, Kentucky, is just another dying, bad-luck town, known only for the legend of E. Starling, the reclusive nineteenth-century author and illustrator who wrote The Underland--and disappeared. Before she vanished, Starling House appeared. But everyone agrees that it’s best to let the uncanny house―and its last lonely heir, Arthur Starling―go to rot. Opal knows better than to mess with haunted houses or brooding men, but an unexpec...

Image
Entertainment Wrap-Up for November 7, 2023 Here are a few movies, TV shows, a podcast or two, and maybe a song.  Things that I have been watching/reading/or listening to lately. ********** On Hulu A Hulu Movie... A Haunting in Venice Here is the description I found on Hulu... Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world's most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a seance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. He soon gets thrust into a sinister world of  shadows and secrets when one of the guests is murdered. Starring: Kenneth Branagh, Tina Fey, Camille Cottin, Riccardo Scamarcio, Kelly Reilly Director: Kenneth Branagh Mystery, Thriller Movie2023 1h 43m The Score on Rotton Tomatoes was a very good one This movie I would describe as an old-fashioned "Whodunit It" style movie.  You have murders and people confined together in one spot and a main investigator searching for the answers.  Mixed in is the question...is the killer paranormal or among the living...

Much is happening  in the entertainment area regarding books, TV, and movies.   Here is what I have been watching, reading, and listening to lately.    The YouTube Version What am I reading?   I just finished a physical book, The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James, and I also completed The Book Of CandleLight by Ellery Adams on Audible. I gave the Book of Cold Cases a 4/5, and I gave the Book of Candlelight 3/5 stars. I have just started As Long as The Lemon Trees Grow and The Hidden Pictures. I am excited to continue my reading both of them. The first couple of chapters have gotten my attention, and I have high hopes that I will like them. I started my audiobook Demon Copperhead.  This book is based on David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. I am enjoying it so far.  I like the way it is written; it holds my attention.  I have a feeling it is going to be a good but painful listen. Book Trailer on Demon Copperhead Here is a short video from the ...

Movie Madness- Crimson Peak-Bringing a Movie to Life

Image
I am starting a series called "Bringing a Movie to Life"  It will focus on watching a movie and bringing something from it into my life.  Just because I watch the film does not always mean I will always like the film, but I am sure I can find something in the movie for my series. The movie I watched is called Crimson Peak.   Here is the movie description from Rotten Tomatoes "After marrying the charming and seductive Sir Thomas Sharpe, young Edith (Mia Wasikowska) finds herself swept away to his remote gothic mansion in the English hills. Also living there is Lady Lucille, Thomas' alluring sister and protector of her family's dark secrets. Able to communicate with the dead, Edith tries to decipher the mystery behind the ghostly visions that haunt her new home. As she comes closer to the truth, Edith may learn that true monsters are made of flesh and blood." The Movie Trailer A bizarre and violent film. Scary creatures/ghosts or demons pop up on rare occasio...

Kathiey's Movie Review "The Invisible Man" 2020 vs 1933 versions

Image
My daughter Erica and Jane her new baby daughter were at my house for a couple of days because her husband was out of town.  My son-in-law does not enjoy scary movies and Erica does enjoy them so we decided to watch a scary movie and not put Josh through the trauma. There was a new movie that came out earlier this year "The Invisible Man".  I had checked it out on Amazon a couple of months ago and it was over $20 or so to rent and that was a bit much for me.  I check again while Erica was here and it was, I think, $3.99.  So with the reduced price, we decided to rent the movie. We gathered our movie snacks and our wine and settled in to watch our movie.  Here is the movie trailer I found on YouTube. The Invisible Man 2020 Rotten Tomatoes gave it 91% on the Tomatometer.  The audience score was 88%.  I would give it on a scale of 1-10 an 8 on my movie scale, which is a very good score. Here is a quote from Rotten Tomatoes "Trapped in a vio...

Kathiey's World Lifestyle Vlog, Family, Movies, TV, Bees, and Fun

Welcome to my World June 2020 Lifestyle Vlog Out and About They have lifted some COVID 19 restrictions here in North Carolina.  The virus is starting to spread a bit more and my concern is that we will have to lock down again but in the interim, I have been getting out more. I have been to a local garden center where you can enjoy the lovely plants plus goats and chickens and also have a nice drink at The Potting Shed.  I have probably been there three times in the last two weeks. One other place that I visited this week was the local mall.  I have not been to the mall in months.  It was not a pleasant experience.  Erica and I went with our masks ready to enjoy our beloved mall and I came away not wanting to go back.  We had to wear our masks in most of the stores and many of the stores were hot and at times I felt like I could not breathe.  I went into my favorite clothing store, Ann Taylor Loft, only to find you could not try on cl...
