In the Kitchen-Olive Oil Which One Should I Choose?

Image
I don't know about you but I get very confused when I look at all my options when searching for Olive Oil.  There seem to be different grades, different colors, and many different brands and prices.  Where do I start? In an article by Healthline ,  they discuss 11 Proven Benefits of Olive Oil. They list healthy fats, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties to mention just a few. All I really know about Olive Oil is that I use it in cooking.  I also know that when I go to the grocery store and see the abundance of selections I have no idea which one to choose. I found an interesting article that breaks down the Olive Oil facts "Ultimate Guide to Olive Oil" The color and flavors of olive oil are based on where the olives are grown.  The flavors can range from fruity to herbal. Olive oil is graded into three basic grades with subcategories.  Extra virgin, virgin, and semi-fine virgin. As I understand it, and I could be wrong, the scoring is based on acidi

Piedmont Farm Tour....Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm, Blast From the Past-When we were allowed to travel.

Image
Time for the 21st annual Piedmont Farm Tour. I have been on the tour one other time and I was excited to check out a few farms this year. It was held on Saturday and Sunday so we went out both days. There were 38 farms on the tour. We were able to visit 4..... Caleb, Erica, and Kathiey's farm adventure. The first farm on our list was a buffalo farm in Roxboro. Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm As we arrived we saw the buffalo in the field. It was at some distance but they were amazing. The storm clouds were moving in as we drove up the road to check in for our adventure. We made it to the gazebo just in time. It poured. No worries though. We enjoyed a buffalo burger while sitting beside a beautiful lake. Life is good. (Caleb wanted nothing to do with the burger. He had chips:-) Caleb and Erica ventured down the trail to get a bit closer to the buffalo. After this visit, Caleb was able to add the term cow pie to his vocabulary. Although, I guess it w

Blast from the Past-Ride the Rails at Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock NC

Image
I don't know how many times I have driven by Tweetsie Railroad.  It is on the road that leads from Blowing Rock to Boone, both of which I have frequented.  I have heard a lot about Tweetsie over the years and of some of their annual events such as The Ghost Train during Halloween and Tweetsie Christmas.  They hold many other events throughout the year as well. My family and I were renting a house near Boone NC.  Caleb had just turned 6, and it seemed to be the perfect time to visit this theme park. Tweetsie Railroad opened in July of 1957.  That means it has been in existence for 60 years and still going strong.  Just like me...60 and going strong:-) Tweetsie Railroad sits on 200 beautiful rolling acres. They have several live shows, and places to shop, plus rides and other attractions.  I enjoyed the roaming characters.  You can see the dancers, saloon girls, and cowboys in the photo below.  Trouble is coming, looks like a gun fight getting ready to happen.  The steam

Reading Along with Caleb and Maggie. Maggie's Book, "Mercy Watson to the Rescue" by Kate DiCamillo (Spoiler Alert)

Image
During this time of isolation, due to COVID 19, I have decided it would be fun to buddy read a book with Caleb and Maggie.  For Easter, I gave them each a book and I bought the books for myself as well so we can share them over facetime. Maggie and I will be reading together Mercy Watson to the Rescue.  This is a new book for me so let's get started. Mercy Watson to the Rescue (photos below are from the book) Chapter 1 Mercy is a pig.  Mercy lives with Mr. and Mrs. Watson.  She has a beautiful bedroom with orange blankets.  When Mercy goes to bed at night Mr. and Mrs. Watson sing to her.  When they sing to her Mercy feels warm inside like she has just eaten hot toast with a lot of butter. When they turn off the lights she sometimes feels afraid.  Sometimes when she feels afraid she goes to Mr. and Mrs. Watson's room and sleeps with them and then she sleeps soundly feeling all warm and buttery-toasty. Chapt 2 Mr. and Mrs. Watson and Mercy were all fas
