Wine Tasting-Arabella Sauvignon Blanc

Image
I recently published a recipe with wine titled Recipe Review White Chicken Chili with a Wine Pairing .  The wine I paired with the Chili was Arabella Sauvignon Blanc, and I found that I really enjoyed the wine. I decided to do a little research on this wine, and here is what I found.  Arabella is produced in South Africa.  The wine is described as "Green and Flinty." Here is how I found Green and Flinty described on Wine-Searcher "A cool, citrus minerality. From the limestone character of Sancerre to the green, herbaceous Sauvignon Blanc of Marlborough, this style often shows off cut grass and wet stone." The description above would not lead me to want to try this wine.  The appeal of tasting wet stone and cut grass does not entice me. Despite the description, I loved this wine. Here is a description of the wine from the winery website...(I like this description:-) Tasting Notes Yellow green in colour. Complex green grassy nose with passion fruit, guava and pear ar

Seven Ways to Make Your Home Smell Amazing - Part 2

Image
I would love to have a clean, fresh-smelling house.  This is not always easy when you have pets.  It is also difficult at times with soiled diapers from kids or grandkids.  Even some cooking smells, such as broccoli or fish, can be a bit off-putting.  Last week I focused on a few things not to do if you want a freshly scented home called 16 Ways to Make Your Home Smell Amazing- Here is What Not Do!  This week I will focus on what to do for clean, fresh scents throughout your home. I have learned with diapers to take them outside to the trash bin ASAP to solve the stinky diaper dilemma.  1-Candles One way that many of us add a wonderful aroma to our home is through candles.  There is nothing better than burning pine-scented candles during the holiday season.  I also love cinnamon scents and floral scents.  With the scented candles available now, the possibilities are endless. Along with the aroma of a nice scented candle burning a candle can improve your mood and create a nice ambiance

Wine Tasting-What is Chardenel Wine?

Image
What is a Chardonel Wine? A friend of mine and I had the pleasure of visiting a local winery, Fireclay Cellars, in Siler City, NC.  One of the wines on their wine menu is Chardonel. Here is how they describe their Chardonel wine. "Our dry Chardonel produces a seamless balance of golden apple, honey, and lemon flavors.  Along with a soft refreshing minerality, it has a clean, bright finish." I went online to get a description of what a Chardonel wine is, and here are a few facts I found.   Chardonel is pronounced-shar-dun-el The parents of Chardonel are Chardonnay and Seyval Blanc.   This wine is described as amber in color, fruity, and full-bodied.  Here is what Wikipedia has to say about Chardonel wine... "Chardonel is a late-ripening white wine hybrid grape which can produce a high quality wine with varietal character. It is a result of a cross made by the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station of the popular French American hybrid Seyval and the classic vitis

16 Ways to Make Your Home Smell Amazing- Here is What Not Do!

I would love for my home to smell nice.  I want it to smell clean and fresh, with maybe a hint of a seasonal scent wafting through the air. Well, I was reading an article on the  14 Things People With Nice-Smelling Homes Never Do  that I found on a site called Apartment Therapy.   Here is her list and my success or failure with each one. 1- Don't forget to clean out the fridge . I do a fair job with this one.  I try to get rid of old or expired items each week on trash day.  I clean the shelves probably every two months or so.  I don't have a true schedule for this practice.  2- Never leave the bed sheets on too long .  This I do a good job with.  I change my sheets once a week.  I love the feel of clean, smooth sheets. 3- They don't wash kitchen towels without bleach or bleach alternatives .  I fail at that. I just use regular detergent.   4- They don't leave wet laundry in the washer for more than a day.  Ninety percent of the time, I put it in the dryer the same
