Kathiey's Weekly News and Video Link Round Up.

Image
Find yourself a comfy seat grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine or bottle of beer and join me for my weekly news and video roundup.  I would love to hear your thoughts on any of the articles.   📰 Food News 📰 "Oh, no is that Dr. Pepper in my baked beans?" Are you or were you a fan of Dr. Pepper ?  I remember as a kid we would have the occasional Dr. Pepper because my dad liked it and would buy a rare six-pack. It was not my favorite soda, but I did enjoy the unexpected treat.  That being said I would not have ever imagined putting this interesting flavored drink in my baked beans.  But guess what?  Someone did just that.   Check it out here " These Dr. Pepper Baked Beans Have Very Mixed Reviews"   Here is one quote from the article "tonight my trash can ate the beans."  Would you try them? "Can it be true?  Dollar Stores carry some toxic items.  Shocking!" I guess you could call me naive.  I have had the assumption, that

North Carolina Wine- A Visit to Gregory Vineyards

Image
I had the exciting opportunity to visit Gregory Vineyards in Angier North Carolina with several other wine-loving buddies.  What a beautiful location.  Join me as I revisit the event. Quotes from their website: "Escape to a quiet country setting and enjoy a picturesque view of rolling hills,  vineyards, and spring fed lakes" "Gregory Vineyards features lakefront Vineyards, a Winery, Distillery, Tasting Room, and Lane’s Seafood and Steak House. Learn the art of making Wine, Moonshine, Brandy, and Fortified Wines. Enjoy award winning Unfortified Wines and Fortified Wines. Relax by the fireplace, front porch or have a delicious meal." When we arrived, they had a lovely meal prepared for us.  We enjoyed this yummy lunch along with a tasting of the Gregory Vineyard wines. My favorite wine of the tasting was the Bald Eagle.  I did try one of their Brandy Wines.  I had the Fearless Brandy Wine because that is what I want to believe that I am:-)   Fea

Recipe Review: Paula Deen's Chicken Pecan Salad

Image
The other day Erica said, "Mom is your chicken salad recipe on your blog?" She wanted to make it, and I realized it had not yet made the blog. I thought, now would be a good time to get it posted, plus I was in the mood for some tasty chicken salad, some comfort food, so here goes..... Paula Deen's Pecan Chicken Salad As found on  Yummy . (I did add a bit of sugar to the dressing which is not in the recipe) Here is a link to the recipe in PDF   if you want to make a copy. Served with grapes and crackers and a nice glass of white wine.  Very Good! I will give this recipe a 9/10 on my cooking scale.  I have not had much luck with new recipes lately, so it was nice to return to an oldie but goodie. If you are in the mood for chicken salad I suggest you give this recipe a try. Don't forget to add some sugar! Happy Eating! KathieyV:-)

Morning Motivation from the Book of Esther 4:14

Image
I just listened to a sermon from the Summit Church in Durham NC.  The focus of the talk was Esther from the Old Testament. She was placed in a situation, not of her choosing.  But it was the choices she made in this "time" that made all the difference.  Her impact was far-reaching, saving the lives of many and also bringing justice to some. She decided that she would step out on faith, even though she was afraid, and make a difference. God can take our situations and use them for good.  God can use "such a time as this" whatever the circumstance in our lives may be and use it to help others if we are only faithful to this calling. "Dear God, you know I did not want a family divided and all the pain and chaos that goes along with that division.  But I am in this situation now, and I pray that I use "such a time as this" to help others and for your glory.  Please direct my path.  Thank you, God!" KathieyV I don't know your situation,

Remembering the Piedmont Farm Tour "Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm"

Image
-  August 14, 2018 Time for the 21st annual Piedmont Farm Tour.  I have been on this tour one other time, and I was excited to check out a few farms this year.  The tour was scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, so we went out both days.  There were 38 farms on the tour.  We were able to visit four of the farms.   The first farm on our list was a buffalo farm in Roxboro NC. Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm   As we arrived, we saw a herd of buffalo grazing in an open field.  What an amazing sight. The storm clouds were moving in as we drove up the road to check in for our adventure.   We made it to the gazebo just in time as the rain began to pour down.   No worries though they had both food and drink under the shelter.  We enjoyed a buffalo burger while sitting beside a lovely lake.  It ended up being a very peaceful lunch.  (Caleb wanted nothing to do with the buffalo burger.  He had chips:-) Caleb and Erica ventured down the trail to get a bit closer to the buffal

I love the performing arts, and I love wine.  I thought I would look ahead into Sept and find some shows and wine events in my area of North Carolina that I would like to attend.  I wish I could attend every event but as my mom used to say "If wishes were horses then beggars would ride," another quote she used to throw around was "champagne taste on a beer budget."  I can dream though and sometimes dreams do come true. Curtain Calls *Sept 15 at the Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh the NC Symphony is playing  "The Music of Queen" *Sept 16 in Raleigh is the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra Fall Pops Concert *Sept 22 you can go to a dinner theater where you become part of the event.   It's called Tony n' Tina's Wedding and it held at The Glenwood in Raleigh *Sept 25 at DPAC in Durham you can enjoy an Evening With Sarah McLachlan *Sept 28-30 the Cary Players are putting on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat in Cary NC

Food in the News- Aug 2018

I love to read food articles and food-related blog posts.  There is an ever-changing food landscape out there, and I thought it would be fun to share some interesting articles. #1-What is all this cheese dust? Have you ever wondered what was in that  cheese dust  that sticks to your fingers as you are enjoying your  cheese puffs ?  Check out this article I found on the  Daily Meal .  You will not only learn about cheese dust but several other food facts that are very interesting. #2-Do you think you have perfect table etiquette? I would love to know if you feel the same after reading this post titled  "21 Most Common Table Etiquette Mistakes."   I have broken several of the rules and some I never even considered.  Wouldn't it be fun to take a class where you are nicely judged on your table etiquette.  I am sure I would get in trouble for laughing. #3-What, coconut oil is not good for me? Well, that is the new scuttlebutt out there in the media.  Read the articl
