A Visit to The Museum Park at the NCMA of Raleigh NC

Museum Park a the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh NC. When you drive past the NCMA in Raleigh you can see several sculptures from the roadway.  I decided it was high time I checked out The Museum Park. Quote from the NCMA website... "The Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park connects art, nature, and people to encourage creative experiences and human interactions. It features temporary and permanent public art installations by international artists, environmentally sustainable landscapes, colorful and contemporary gardens, miles of recreational trails, and a terraced pond." According to the park brochure, there are 28 works of art in this park.  I viewed 15.  I will have to go back and find the sculptures that I missed. The park itself is lovely.  There are walking trails, areas to picnic, and of course artwork.  It made for a pleasant stroll on this beautiful spring day. I saw folks relaxing on benches, a family picnic underway beneath th

Journal Prompt-What Type of Music Do You Listen to and How Does it Make You Feel?

Image
Journal Prompt for February 2023 What type of music do you enjoy listening to and how does it make you feel? I love music. I find myself singing along to various tunes, and you will often find me singing in harmony. I find joy in many types of music. I grew up on rock music and enjoy it to this day. I like county music and some jazz and classical. The music that I like most is Christian music. I have been a member of Praise and Worship teams in local churches. We would sing praise songs as well as Christian rock, which was my personal favorite. I guess Christian music is my favorite type of music because it literally saved my life. During the most challenging time in my life, when my husband abruptly left me, I wanted to give up because all of my dreams and goals were destroyed, and I could find no reason to move on. During this time, I would force myself to listen to a Christian Radio Station called K-Love. Listening to the music, I was able to keep going. In the lyrics, I found hope

Below is a blog post was written about eleven years ago when Caleb was a baby.   I am resharing this post and the cookie recipe. Give them a try; they a very good! Blast From the Past Over the weekend, Stephanie, Josh, and baby Caleb came for a visit.  It was wonderful! When they left to visit Josh's family, I had a choice.  I could take a nap which sounded inviting, or I could do something constructive.  After a mental debate, I decided to make cookies, so they would have a treat when they returned home.  I pulled out my recipe binder and came across an oldie but goodie...Honey Peanut Butter Cookies from Taste of Home Magazine. I gathered my ingredients. A 9.5 on my cooking scale.Yum:-) I preheated my oven to 350 degrees F. I mixed the shortening, peanut butter, and honey with my mixer.  Then I added the eggs and mixed them well.  Then I combined the dry ingredients in a different bowl and whisked them together.  After that, I added the dry ingred

Travel-Buffalo Springs a Historic Site in Mecklenburg County Virginia

Image
A few weeks ago, I found myself driving around with Rocky.   Rocky lives up near the North Carolina-Virginia line, and he had a historic site in mind that he wanted to show me. He took me to Buffalo Springs in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. So that was the day I found myself in Buffalo Junction Va home of Buffalo Springs. It is much different if you visit the area today than in their hay day. Let's take a look. The area gained attention in 1726. Colonel William Byrd was surveying the boundary between Virginia and Carolina. The Colonel was witness to Native Americans killing a local buffalo for food and also drinking from a spring nearby hence the name Buffalo Springs. Buffalo Springs, also known as Buffalo Lithia Springs.  Why was it called Lithia? Because back in the 1800's it was believed to contain lithium.  Here is a quote from Bottled Poetry ..."for a person to obtain any therapeutic dose of lithium by drinking Buffalo Lithia Spring Water, he would have to drink from 1

Sunday Shopping on Amazon-A Day At Universal Orlando in Winter-A Check List

Image
It is Sunday again, and time to go Sunday Shopping on Amazon. I just spent the week in Orlando at Universal studios. With that in mind, I am going to share a few things that would come in handy to make your day more comfortable in the park. Let's head over to Amazon... 1- WATERFLY Hiking Waist Bag Fanny Pack with Water Bottle Holder -I found at Universal you need something to carry your items in. A fanny pack may be big enough. It was for me, but my daughter got a small backpack. Be aware that even a small fanny pack is not allowed on all rides, but there are lockers available as you ride your ride. 2- Saucony Women's Guide 10 Running Shoe -I did wear my running shoes to the park.  We did some running to get a ride right after the park opened.  Some people do opt for sandals.  3- Adidas Originals Women's Mini Logo Relaxed Adjustable Cap  I think a hat is necessary to protect your face and head from the sun. 4- Harry Potter Hogwarts Houses Lanyard -You must have a lanyard if

Monthly Motivation….Layers…Tasting The Good and the Bad...

Image
I can't believe it is February already.  As we begin the month, let's look at Monthly Motivation.  This one has to do with tasting the layers of our lives.  I have been reading a unique book, The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, by Aimee Bender. The premise of the book was fascinating. The main character in this book has a gift. Her gift is the ability to taste feelings and emotions in the food that someone prepares for her. She can taste joy, betrayal, fear, loneliness, and all the feelings and truths hidden in the food's layers. This ability is how she gets to know who you are. That got me thinking, "what would my daughters and friends know about me if I were to have them over for a homemade meal and they had this same gift?". What would they taste in the layers? I know they would experience some unpleasant layers that make up my life. Layers brought on by my being discarded by my husband. They would taste the emotional pain of abandonment. They would know th
