Entertainment Wrap-Up..This Year in History 1957

Image
Top Music, TV, Movie, and Number One Book in 1957. The Youtube Version Music The top song on the music charts in 1957 was All Shook Up by Elvis Presley.  I tried to find a good video of an actual 1957 performance, but they were all poor quality.  Here is a video with a few photos of Elvis with the song playing in the background.   As I listened to the song, I remembered it clearly.  I was a baby when Elvis first performed this song, so for me to have remembered, it must have remained popular for some time after its release. TV Shows The top TV show of 1957 was Gunsmoke, followed by The Danny Thomas Show and Tales of Wells Fargo .  I remember the top two, but I have no memory of Tales of Wells Fargo.  I remember watching Gunsmoke, and I really liked Festus. Movies According to Wikipedia, the number one movie in 1957 was The Bridge Over The River Kwai .  I remember watching this with my dad.  Here is the trailer.  I think I may watch it again. Sunday/Monday Shopping On Amazon-Finding a Fall Nail Polish

Image
It is so much fun to get a mani-pedi when the start of a new season is upon us.  I love the color choices that are available seasonally.  I have been getting pedicures but have avoided manicures because of a bad experience.  I was getting the dip-style manicure.  I loved the result because the polish looked terrific, and it was durable and lasted for weeks.  I could not have been happier, at least until I said I wanted to take a break and realized the damage to my nails.  I would describe my nails after several months of nonstop dip polished as claws.  My fingernails were thin and jagged; even a typical manicure without polish did not help.   Here I am months later, and my nails are back to normal.  I would love to color my nails again, but I am reluctant to get a dip manicure.  I researched the types of nail polish and topcoats that are chip resistant and durable.  Essie Nail Polish and OPI Nail Laquer are the two polishes marked the highest for a long-lasting polish.  I aim to get a

Entertainment Wrap -Up for Aug 22, 2022, Books, Movies and TV.

Image
Much is happening  in the entertainment area regarding books, TV, and movies.   Here is what I have been watching, reading, and listening to lately.  The YouTube Version What am I reading?   I am reading one physical book and listening to one audiobook.   The physical book I got from the library is called The Dutch House by Anne Patchet.  I am about halfway through, and I am really enjoying it.  I would call it a contemporary family drama.  It all starts off in America in a "Dutch House."  In the house, initially, you find a distant father, a mother who has left, a brother and a sister, and the house staff.  Along comes someone else who becomes part of the home dynamic, and everything changes from there.  It is holding my interest, and I look forward to reading it every evening. The audiobook is Burden Falls by Kat Ellis.  I am not as invested in it as I am in The Dutch House, but I don't want to give up just yet.  I still have nearly 8 hours left in this listen, and I a

Foodie Friday-Food In the News Aug 19, 2022

Image
I love to search for food news because you never know what you will find.  Here are some interesting articles I found in the news this week concerning food. 1- 30 Best Oreo Flavors, Ranked and Tested  I have never been a huge oreo fan, but after looking at this list, I want to revisit the oreo.  The Oreo was introduced to the world in 1912, so it has been around a while, even before my time:-) I would like to try The Thin Mints, The Gingerbread, The Apple Cider Donut, and the Golden Oreo.  What fun! 2- Papa Johns Ditches the Crust with New Pizza Bowls  That sounds very good to me.  All the tasty flavors of the pizza without the crust.  When I was trying to lose weight in the past, I would scrape the toppings off the pizza crust and enjoy the pizza without the added carbs in the crust.  I guess I don't need to do that anymore. Several other pizza chains off this option, such as Marco's and Johnny's Pizza House. 3- The New Baileys Espresso Creme Is Out Now, and We’re Ready to

Foodie Friday-Savory Pie Crust With Chives. How to Add Chives/Herbs to a Pre-Made Pie Crust

Image
I made a tomato pie recently.   The pie crust was the best thing about that recipe.  What made it so good were the chives that I added to the crust and it is super simple to make. You can add just about any herb to a savory pie crust.  What you choose is based on the flavor profile you are trying to achieve. The tomato pie recipe I was making added chives to both the store-bought pie crust and to the pie itself.  Here is the super simple recipe... Ingredients: *Packaged refrigerated piecrusts.  Be sure and get a package with two piecrusts.  *Two tablespoons of Chopped Fresh Chives. (If you decide to use dried herbs, use 1/2 to 1 teaspoon for each herb you use.  I used fresh chives.) Instructions: *Unroll one pie crust and sprinkle with 2 Tablespoons of fresh chopped chives.  *Place the second piecrust on top and then roll to seal the piecrusts together. *Transfer to a 9" pie plate pressing into the bottom and up the sides of the plate. There you have it. You are now ready to fill

Wine-What is Pinot Grigio Wine? With Suggested Food Pairings.

Image
Today is a good day to talk about wine. So, let's take a look at Pino Grigio.   First off, what is Pinot Grigio wine? It is one of the very popular white wines. Pinot Grigio is a white wine described as light, crisp, and dry. It is said to have a high level of acidity. According to Spruce Eats, Pinot Grigio is America's second most popular wine. I have come across another wine called Pinot Gris wine. I thought Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio were probably the same, but they are not.  According to My Recipes, here is the difference "Pinot Grigio, undoubtedly the most popular of the two, is lighter-bodied, crisp, clean, and vibrant with citrus flavors, according to Wine Spectator. Pinot gris, on the other hand, is sweet, and has spicy tropical fruit aromas. It generally has low acidity, higher alcohol levels, and a rich texture." I will have to try both of them to see which one I like the most.  I will have to plan a wine tasting:-) The tasting notes of Pinot Grigio will va

Sunday Shopping On Amazon: Resort Wear

I wish I could say I was headed to a resort this week, but I am not.  I could make that happen, but for now, let's pretend we are headed to a lovely summer resort.  This resort would have a unique and beautiful pool with a swim-up bar and poolside service.  There would be multiple restaurants and, of course, entertainment.  You could dress up or down at this resort; however, the mood would strike you.  Here are a few items that would be a nice addition to the trip. 1- Straw Shoulder Bag Set Beach Clutch Purse Crossbody Vacation Purse with 2 Pairs Rattan Boho Vacation Earrings 2 Pairs of Tropical Earrings for Women, Leopard Cuff Bracelet Accessories 2- Heavy Weight Jumbo Size Dobby Hem Velour Beach Towel (Black) 36” x 72” 3- GUBERRY Womens Wrap V Neck Sleeveless Sundress Summer Flare Tank Dress with Pockets 4- Straw Visors for Women, Sun Visors for Women Visors for Women, Straw Hats for Women, Handmade Beach Hats for Women 5- Omichic Women's Tummy Control Swimsuits Tankini Sets

Entertainment Wrap-Up With Movies, Books, and TV Shows With A Few Trailer

Image
Much is going  on in the entertainment area regarding books, TV, and movies.   Here is what I have been watching and listening to lately.  The YouTube Version What am I reading?   I finished two books last week.  Mary by Nat Cassidy and The Ghost and Mrs. McClure by Alice Kimberly. Both of the books were Audiobooks.  I DNF'd Mary even though I was at least 80% finished.  It was a good listen, and I am still curious about what happened, but it seemed to be going to a very dark place that I knew I could not handle.  The Ghost and Mrs. McClure was what I would call a cozy mystery, and I enjoyed it. I am currently reading a middle-grade book called Double the Danger and Zero Zucchini by Betsy Uhrig.  It is about a reluctant reader named Alex.  Alex is invited by his aunt to critique the book she is writing, and she will pay him for his services.  Alex finds the book extremely dull and is taking on the mission of making the book more exciting.  Maybe through this process, he will become
