Journal Prompt For June-Did You Have Air Conditioning In Your Childhood Home?

Image
June is a hot month.  Did you have air conditioning growing up?   If not, how did you survive the heat?  What is your perfect temperature setting in the summer? As long as I can remember, I have liked a cold bedroom. In the summer, happy with a temperature below 70 degrees, and in the winter, I achieved the perfect sleeping weather by opening the window and taking whatever mother nature has to offer. Do I like to feel cold at night?  No, but I don't want to be hot. That is torture for me, and forget getting any sleep in hot, humid weather.  So I say give me a cold room with lots of blankets year-round, and I am a happy sleeping camper.  Did we have AC growing up?  No.  We lived on the eastern shore of Maryland, and no, it did not get as hot and humid as here in NC, but there were some unbearably hot days and nights. There were nights in Maryland I would lay in bed drenched in sweat with a small fan circulating more hot air all around me.  There were countless sleepless and sweat

Wine-What the Heck is Honeysuckle Wine?

Image
I experienced a new type of wine recently, Honeysuckle wine, and I loved it.  The question is, "What the Heck is Honeysuckle Wine? I don't know about you, but as I kid, I remember walking in the woods and seeing the honeysuckle bush in the distance.  I swear I could often smell the amazing aroma before I even saw the lovely flowers.  I would rush up to the plant, pick a flower, and pinch and gently pull the little green tip at the base of the flower.  I remember you had to pull it gently in order to get that one drop, if you were lucky, of that delicious nectar. Fun times!  Imagine my surprise when I came across a honeysuckle wine.  I could not wait to try it. First off, what is honeysuckle? Honeysuckle is an invasive plant with some of the most lovely, ephemeral flowers -  their heavenly aroma lends itself nicely to this wine. Pixiepocket.com According to Southern Living, " Honeysuckle has long, tubular blooms that give off a sweet scent and come in shades of yellow, wh

Travel/Wine-Let's Check out Woodbine Vineyards in Buffalo Springs Va.

Image
I recently had the opportunity to check out Woodbine Vineyards in Buffalo Junction, Va.  This place is so much fun.  Let me share my experience with you. If you are like me, you like wine which means you love to visit wineries.  After visiting my latest winery, I can now say that Woodbine Vineyards ranks as one of my top wineries. I love this quote from their website... Let's take a look outside first. They planted the first vines in 2018. You will find plenty of seating both inside and outside at Woodbine. Let's head inside. When you walk into the winery, you will find the warmth of the wood and an inviting atmosphere.  You will find twinkling lights and plenty of seating. The Building is long and narrow because it used to be a stable.   So pretty... One aesthetic that I loved was the old stalls.  Each stall has been turned into a unique seating area. Some with chairs and couches and some with tables.  Several of the stalls are available for rent.  If they are not rented out

Quotes-A Quote of Great Wisdom-"A Listening Ear Can Be A Running Mouth"

Image
Today I am going to share a quote of great wisdom.  These are wise words from a site called Cheers I found on Pinterest. In my mind, another way to say this is "be careful who you trust." If you share too much, it may come back to haunt you.  This quote just means that we should think twice about who we share our heart with.  If we have something we want to share that we need to share, we should be cautious about who we decide to trust to keep it to themselves.  Many times when we are going through a difficult time, we have the need to share to vent.  Sharing your story when you are in distress is therapeutic. I think we need to ask the questions... Can I trust this person? Can this person be discrete with what I am sharing? Will this information in some way damage or hurt the person I want to share with? I hope you have many good friends that you can share your deepest feelings with, friends you can trust. The moral of the story is to think before you speak. Happy Monday Eve
