Kathiey's Movie Review "The Invisible Man" 2020 vs 1933 versions
My daughter Erica and Jane her new baby daughter were at my house for a couple of days because her husband was out of town. My son-in-law does not enjoy scary movies and Erica does enjoy them so we decided to watch a scary movie and not put Josh through the trauma.
There was a new movie that came out earlier this year "The Invisible Man". I had checked it out on Amazon a couple of months ago and it was over $20 or so to rent and that was a bit much for me. I check again while Erica was here and it was, I think, $3.99. So with the reduced price, we decided to rent the movie.
We gathered our movie snacks and our wine and settled in to watch our movie. Here is the movie trailer I found on YouTube.
Rotten Tomatoes gave it 91% on the Tomatometer. The audience score was 88%. I would give it on a scale of 1-10 an 8 on my movie scale, which is a very good score.

The Invisible Man 2020
Here is a quote from Rotten Tomatoes
"Trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist, Cecilia Kass (Moss) escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, aided by her sister (Harriet Dyer, NBC's The InBetween), their childhood friend (Aldis Hodge, Straight Outta Compton) and his teenage daughter (Storm Reid, HBO's Euphoria). But when Cecilia's abusive ex (Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House) commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, Cecilia suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turn lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia's sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see."
The movie is rated R for bloody violence, and language.
Genre is Horror, Mystery, Suspense, Science Fiction, and Fantasy.
I found it to be a fun edge of your seat thriller. The character development was pretty good although you did not get much information on the invisible man but you did see the results of his actions. The most difficult part of the movie for me was the fact that everyone thought the main character was crazy and did not take her seriously, at least not in the beginning.
There are some violent moments in this movie along with many edge of your seat moments.
There are many good actors in this movie and not having seen anything with Elisabeth Moss before I was impressed with her acting.
After watching the new version of the Invisible Man I decided to watch the old movie that was filmed in 1933. Here is the YouTube trailer.
The Invisible Man 1933
Rotten Tomatoes gave this movie 97% on their Tomatometer. The audience score was 85%. I gave it a 2 out of 10 on my movie scale. I thought it was horrible.
Basically, it is about a man who does experiments and the result of one of his experiments is that he becomes invisible. It also changes his personality and he becomes violent and uses his newfound invisibility to easy commit crimes of violence without detection.
I thought the acting was unrealistic. One woman did so much screaming and it was so high pitched that I actually develped a headache. At times her screaming was appropriate and other times it was just over the top.
The only way the two movies were the same was in that a man uses his invisibility to exact violence on others. The 2020 version was geared more toward revenge and was intentional and the 1933 version was more like an experiment gone wrong and not so much a deliberate act but a consequence.
In conclusion, if you want to watch the Invisible Man I would watch the 2020 version.
Have you watched either of these movies? If so, I would love to know your thoughts.
Take care!
