Out and About
They have lifted some COVID 19 restrictions here in North Carolina.  The virus is starting to spread a bit more and my concern is that we will have to lock down again but in the interim, I have been getting out more.
I have been to a local garden center where you can enjoy the lovely plants plus goats and chickens and also have a nice drink at The Potting Shed.  I have probably been there three times in the last two weeks.

One other place that I visited this week was the local mall.  I have not been to the mall in months.  It was not a pleasant experience.  Erica and I went with our masks ready to enjoy our beloved mall and I came away not wanting to go back.  We had to wear our masks in most of the stores and many of the stores were hot and at times I felt like I could not breathe.  I went into my favorite clothing store, Ann Taylor Loft, only to find you could not try on clothes, you had to buy them, take them home, try them on at home and bring them back.  Not happening, I may as well order online.
Next, we went to a store that provided hand sanitizer as most stores do currently.  I had been using the hand sanitizer in the other stores but this one store had sanitizer that had gone bad.  As soon as I used it I smelled the pungent odor which wafted into my mask and never went away.  I had to leave the store and get some fresh air.  I did look up malodorous hand sanitizer on google and found that the ethanol can produce a smell like rotting garbage, and that is just what it smelled like.  Yuck.

Weekly Movie
My movie of the week was The Invisible Man, it is a new version that came out this year.

Then I went on to watch the older version made in 1933.

The 2020 version was pretty good, the 1933 version I did not like at all.  Stayed tuned for my mini-review that will post on Monday.

                                                            TV Show of the Week

I have been watching Top Chef.  It is fun to watch the talented chefs battle it out for the win.  I have also been watching My 600 Pound Life.  I have to take that one in small doses because it is a difficult theme.  I feel bad watching the people struggle but I also admire their determination to change their lives for the better.

What I am reading this week
I am in the process of reading "The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek"
So far it is pretty good.  About a young woman in the early 1930's who worked for the Kentucky Pack Horse Libary service.  She would ride her mule to deliver books to the people, like herself, who lived in poverty and oppression. Also, she was blue.  This book is a historical fiction book.  I did look up the cause of the blue skin and it has to do with a rare recessive gene.
You can read more about the condition here,Blue Fugates.

I have spent a lot of time with my new granddaughter, Jane.
She is such a joy.
She is at the age where she is connecting.  She maintains eye contact and is smiling much of the time and she is trying to coo.
I also had fun with Maggie and Caleb.  We had a fun sleepover.

One of my jobs with Jane is to watch her in the safety of the car while Josh and Erica tend to the bees.  Well, this week the bees were far from happy.  Something had happened to the queen and we were delivering a new queen to the hive.  We had read that a few things that make the bees aggressive are high humidity, rain, and the loss of a queen, and that day we had all three. When we arrived with the new queen it was evident that the bees were angry.  Josh and Erica suited up and headed into the gathering of angry bees.
As you can see from the photo Josh needs to add to his bee suit.  Erica has more coverage then Josh but she needs pants.  Josh did get stung and two of the bees would not leave him alone.  He would leave the hive and they would follow.  Sitting in the car I felt like I was in the movie The Birds only with bees.  They were flying like crazy into the window.  Even though they could not get in it was unnerving.  Hopefully, the bees will calm down now that they have a queen.

Puzzles
I have been putting together jigsaw puzzles.  It is more fun then I remembered.  I did read where puzzles can be a stress reliever.  I will be posting about that on June 29.  Here is the one I am working on now along with the one to follow.

You see on the box it says Easy to See and Handle.  The kids say this is my handicapped puzzle.  I put one together a couple of weeks ago that had the same description and it was much easier than most.  I thought to myself, "I am better at puzzles then I had imagined".  I soon realized that was not the case as I worked on the more difficult farm puzzle, which I am determined to finish.

Thanks for joining me.

It was fun to put together.

How are you keeping sane in this pandemic?

Take care and stay healthy.
