Seven Ways to Make Your Home Smell Amazing - Part 2
I would love to have a clean, fresh-smelling house. This is not always easy when you have pets. It is also difficult at times with soiled diapers from kids or grandkids. Even some cooking smells, such as broccoli or fish, can be a bit off-putting. Last week I focused on a few things not to do if you want a freshly scented home called 16 Ways to Make Your Home Smell Amazing- Here is What Not Do! This week I will focus on what to do for clean, fresh scents throughout your home.
I have learned with diapers to take them outside to the trash bin ASAP to solve the stinky diaper dilemma.
1-Candles
One way that many of us add a wonderful aroma to our home is through candles. There is nothing better than burning pine-scented candles during the holiday season. I also love cinnamon scents and floral scents. With the scented candles available now, the possibilities are endless.
Along with the aroma of a nice scented candle burning a candle can improve your mood and create a nice ambiance in your home.
2-Simmering Scents
Another way to add some very nice scents to your home is to simmer a stovetop potpourri. Here is a quote I found regarding the process. "Simmer water in a small saucepan and add citrus slices and herbs, like lavender or mint." The heat permeates the sweet scent throughout your house and can easily be customized depending on what ingredients you have in the house."
There are many items you can add to your stovetop potpourri. You can add items such as cinnamon sticks, cloves, ginger, citrus peels, pine sprigs, and the list goes on.
Below are a couple of links to get you started if you want to give it a try.

3-Bake Cookies
When visiting open homes in the area, I thought that the agents were baking cookies so they could offer a sweet treat to the visitors. I have since learned that when an agent bakes cookies in a home, they want to sell, it may be to cover any odors that may be hidden in the home. If the agents can make a home smell better by baking cookies, this may be a way for us to make our homes smell fresh. Plus, who does not love a good cookie?
4-Diffuse Essential Oils
I have not tried this, but from what I have read, diffusing essential oils can aid you in creating the perfect scent for your home. There are many essential oils to choose from to help you get the perfect scent for you.
What is an essential oil? Here is the dictionary definition "a natural oil typically obtained by distillation and having the characteristic fragrance of the plant or other source from which it is extracted."
What is a diffuser? "To put it simply, an oil diffuser is a device that breaks essential oils down into smaller molecules, dispersing them into the air for a pleasant or calming effect—depending on the oil that's been put into the diffuser."
Check out essential oil diffusers I found on Amazon. I am going to study the options and pick one out for myself.
6-Add a Scent to Your Vacuum Cleaner
I used to add Potpourri to my vacuum cleaner. It did help add a wonderful scent to my home. One site I was on suggested that you add your favorite perfume to a cotton ball and put it in your vacuum cleaner bag. They said in doing this, you not only clean your floors but add a lovely scent to your home in the process. You can do the same with essential oils by adding just a few drops into your vacuum cleaner bag and allowing your vacuum cleaner to become a diffuser as you clean.
7-Add Fresh Plants and Flowering Plants to Your Home
Adding fresh plants to your home can freshen your home. Live plants can freshen the air in your home, and flowering plants or bouquets can produce a lovely floral scent to your home.
I would love to know any helpful tips to keeping youor home smelling fresh. Post it in the comment box.
Have a Happy Day!
