Food: Cooking School, What is the Difference Between Dark and Light Corn Syrup???

Image
I am making a new recipe this week.  The recipe is called Pecan Pie Cheesecake Bars.  I found the recipe in a magazine called Cooking with Paula Deen.  I made my list and headed off to the grocery store.  In my search for corn syrup, I found that there were two types.  There is dark corn syrup and light corn syrup.  My grocery list just said corn syrup so I was a bit at a loss as to which I should choose.  Here is a quote from  Idea Alley , "Light corn syrup has a mild, sweet flavor and is absolutely colorless. Dark corn syrup gets its brown color from the inclusion of molasses, which also adds a richer flavor. Light and dark corn syrup can be used interchangeably in almost every instance, with slight flavor variances" Here is the one I selected Luckily I choose the light corn syrup because when I got home and checked the recipe that is what it called for.  Happy Day. I would love to know what you are making this week. Happy eating and cookin...

What do You Buy a Nine Year Old Boy for His Birthday??? Here are a few ideas.

My grandson is turning nine this week.  It is amazing how time has flown by.  Just what do you buy a nine-year-old for his birthday?  Caleb has outgrown the dinosaur phase and the dragon phase.  I know he likes Mindcraft.  Basically, I was clueless so I asked my daughter for a list so I could make a choice of something he would like.  Here is what was on the list.... The first thing that I knew he wanted but it did not make the list because his father said "no" was the Nintendo Switch.  Let's look for fun and see if it is on Amazon.  I looked it up and yes Amazon does have it but it is pricey so I am glad it did not make the list:-) (FYI: I am an Amazon Affiliate so if you click on any of the links below and buy anything on Amazon I get a percent of the sale with no extra cost to you.  Happy Day)                                           ...

Our Virginia Wine Experience

Image
According to this site, Virginia Wine , there are 262 wineries in Virginia.  When we were in Staunton a few weeks ago we knew we had to visit a few wineries.  Josh was doing some work so it was Baby Jane, Erica, and I who would venture out to find some wine.  Don't worry Jane did not indulge.  The first stop was Pippin Hill Farm. I have been to Pippin Hill several times.  The view is amazing, the property beautiful, the wine delicious and there is delicious food to go along with the wine.   Next, we stopped at King Family Vineyards . At this vineyard, you can sip your wine and watch a polo match.  What fun!  They were not having a match the day we visited so I will need to return. Another fun stop was Hill Top Winery and Meadery  Here was the tasting menu. My favorite was Oracle and I also enjoyed the Sweet Melon We decided to pick up a couple of bottles of wine in Staunton Va.   We stopped at Ox-Eye Vineyards Tasting Room We took our bo...

Quote of the week. I need to think about this quote.  I started a series of books a few years back to help others going through an unwanted divorce.  I have only finished one of the three. I need to get back to it and finish what I started.  If I can help one person that would be worth the time it takes to complete the project.  Books I am currently reading this book.  It is good but a bit slow.  I will probably end up giving it a 4/5 on my reading scale.  And yes, it is a ghost story. I loved this book and gave it a 5/5 on my reading scale. Brodie Brodie has had an exciting week.  He ended up with a horrible ear infection.  I took him to the vet, and he was placed on meds.  Sadly he seems to have lost some of his hearing during this event.  Next, we had a man walk into my house.  He walked in with a gun, a caulk gun, and went directly into my bathroom.  It was apparent he mistook my townhome for t...
