Travel Tuesday- Travel Apex North Caroline, "A Day with the Kids in Apex"

 I have had a lot of fun in Apex, NC.  I live very close to Apex, so I can visit often.  If I were traveling to Apex and had kids, what are a few things we could do?

I have two sets of grandkids.  Jane and Riley are two and one, and Caleb and Maggie are 6 and 11.  I was thinking, if I were on vacation and I had a day to spend with the kids in Apex, what would I do?

A Day With Jane And Riley in Apex NC

Let's start with the two little ones.  The highlights for the girls are food and fun, so with that in mind, this would be my plan.  

We would start the day with a nice breakfast at First Watch in Apex.  They have a very nice breakfast menu for kids and adults.  This restaurant is not far from downtown Apex.  It is a chain, and I have been several times and I really like the food.

Next, we would hit one of the area parks and playgrounds. Kelly Road Park is the one that looked the most interesting to me. 

After we had expended all the kid's energy at the park, we would head out for ice cream.  There is an ice cream shop downtown called Fresh Local Ice Cream.  I have not had ice cream here, but I have been to Fresh Local Ice Cream in Raleigh, and it is delicious. 

A Day With Caleb and Maggie In Apex NC

If I were spending a day in Apex with Caleb and Maggie, we would also start off with a nice breakfast at First Watch.  They both love pancakes, so this would be the perfect breakfast spot.

Next, we would head over to Defy Gravity which is very close to the breakfast spot.  We have been there a couple of times, and the kids love it.  It is a great place to get an amazing workout.

After defying gravity we would head out to lunch at Red Robin.  This has become a tradition for us if a tradition is possible after doing it twice.  Here we enjoy burgers and lemonade.  As an added plus, there are games they can play on a device on the table.  All this keeps the kiddos very happy.

Next, we would head back to downtown Apex.  They have, for a limited time, a Sculpture Walk.  We would download the sculpture map and find all the sculptures on the list.  I think that would be fun.

I hope this gives you some good ideas if you find yourself in Apex with kids.

I honestly can't tell you the name of the trail that Erica and took on our hike.  You go to the Linville Falls Visitors Center,  turn left, and take the path down.  After doing a bit of research, I think it is the Linville Falls Plunge Basin Trail.  It is a more challenging trail then the hike to the right of the visitor center, although that one is lovely. Travel Blast From the Past-Linville Falls Winery in the Mountains of NC

This blast from the past was written back in 2016.  Wow, where does the time go?  I checked to make sure it is still open, and it is. Happy day! A Visit to Burntshirt Vineyards in Hendersonville NC

My visit to Bruntshirt Vineyard was several years ago.  I visited the one in Hendrsonville, NC; there is also a bistro and tasting room in Chimney Rock, NC.  I was just on their site to make sure it is still open during this Covid Pandemic, and it is.  Both sites are open and hosting events.  I wish they were closer to Cary, NC; if they were, I would visit today.  Let's go back to the past and visit Burntshirt Vineyards... It was the final day of my mini-vacation.  I had climbed the stairs to the top of Chimney Rock, I had pontooned beautiful Lake Lure, and I had stayed at the lovely Esmeralda Inn.  Anytime I take a trip, I do my best to visit a local winery, and I had been remiss in my tradition on this trip.   I could just go home, but that would be crazy if there were a local winery to explore.
