Magazine Adventure-"Cuisine At Home" the Jan/Feb 2019 Edition

Image
One thing I have always wanted to do was to explore a magazine and bring that magazine to life.  I have a stack of old cooking magazines so I decided to start with one of those.  I will search the magazine and choose a few items to bring to life.   Let's go through the magazine and pick several recipes... Here are a few tidbits I found in the magazine. *What is fiedeos? (fih-Day-ohs)-Fideos is a Spanish word for Noodles. *Here is a quote that I liked "Eat everything in moderation, and don't forget your fruits and vegetables."  Maddy Bendgen *I found a rose' I want to try Called Ruinart Rose'.  It is a Rose' Champagne that was founded in 1792.  It is said to be lush yet delicate with notes of pink grapefruit and red berries.  Sounds good to me.  The article said it could be purchased at local retailers.  I will have to go on the search. The plan is to choose a few recipes that I like and make as many of them as I can in the month of Janu...

Travel North Carolina-My Visit to Tryon Palace in New Bern NC

Image
Things to see and do in New Bern NC Travel with me to Tryon Palace in New Bern NC. I was so excited to be in New Bern, NC.  First on my list of places to see, Tryon Palace .   Here is a quote from their website ... Royal Governor William Tryon and his family brought architect John Hawks from London to design and build the Georgian-style structure.  Completed in 1770, Tryon Palace served as the first permanent capitol of North Carolina and home to the Tryon family.   In 1798, fire destroyed the original Palace building.  An extensive 30-year campaign to rebuild the Palace and restore the grounds was launched by the people of New Bern, state leaders, world craftsmen, and generous, dedicated citizens such as Mrs. James Edwin Latham.  Their efforts led to the triumphal reopening of the Palace in 1959.  The palace architectural style was described to me as Georgian.   I was told the interior decor was the same. I asked what the fil...

A Visit to Burntshirt Vineyards in Hendersonville NC

Image
My visit to Bruntshirt Vineyard was several years ago.  I visited the one in Hendrsonville, NC; there is also a bistro and tasting room in Chimney Rock, NC.  I was just on their site to make sure it is still open during this Covid Pandemic, and it is.  Both sites are open and hosting events.  I wish they were closer to Cary, NC; if they were, I would visit today.  Let's go back to the past and visit Burntshirt Vineyards... It was the final day of my mini-vacation.  I had climbed the stairs to the top of Chimney Rock, I had pontooned beautiful Lake Lure, and I had stayed at the lovely Esmeralda Inn.  Anytime I take a trip, I do my best to visit a local winery, and I had been remiss in my tradition on this trip.   I could just go home, but that would be crazy if there were a local winery to explore. Well, as luck would have it, not far off my journey, there was a winery. I consulted Google and plotted my course to Burntshirt Vineyards in Hendersonv...
