Stress Relief. Are You Stressed? Eat an Avocado!

Image
Stress Relief. Are you Stressed? Eat an Avocado! I am going back over all my stress relief posts.  I am updating all of them as if I am starting again, and I am.  I am starting a new YouTube Channel, which has not gone live yet.  It will be called My Story My Divorce God's Promise.  I will be producing videos on stress relief and other issues using my blog posts.  I will also post the video on the blog post as I get them done.  So let's start over, and I will begin with avocados. Let's talk about stress relief.   Stress may be caused by many factors in life.  Separation and divorce are significant contributors of stress for many people. As you know, I am slowly trying all the suggested methods I can find to alleviate stress.  Today I would like to share my latest strategy to decrease stress in my life, as seen in Karen Carnabucci's GPS Guide on Relieving Stress.   She gives  100 suggestions  for stress relief.  Today I will focus on #5,  "Eat an Avocado. Wine Wednesday-What is Orange Wine?

Image
Recently I have heard the term Orange Wine or Skin Contact Wine.    What is it you ask?  I don't know let's find out.  I assumed Orange Wine was made from oranges, but that is not the case.  I found in my research that Orange Wine dates back thousands of years and has come and gone as far as popularity.  It seems in the last 20 years, according to Eat Italy , orange wine is making a resurgence. "What is an Orange Wine? It’s a type of white wine made by leaving the grape skins and seeds in contact with the juice, creating a deep orange-hued finished product." Wine Folly Orange wine is made from white grapes, and it is all-natural with no coloring or additives added. It is different because it is fermented with the seeds and skins intact.  Because the skins are intact, the wine takes on a more tannic flavor and deeper color. Here is what Unusual Wines has to say about the taste of Orange Wine... Generally, orange wines are described as being robust and full-bodied with

The Fine Art of Dining Alone, As Told by a Divorced Woman-Me:-)

Image
One thing that may be a bit scary or uncomfortable for the newly single is the prospect of eating out alone.  Over my years as a divorced woman I have taken myself out to eat on many occasions.  Let's take a look at some helpful tips to help us on our dining solo adventure. Dining alone is a form of self-care.  It is one way for us to take care of ourselves.  We do this by dressing the part and taking ourselves to the restaurant of our choice where we can relax, unwind and enjoy a wonderful meal that we don't need to prepare ourselves.   In this way, we feel a bit catered to and maybe even a little bit special. Many solo diners feel nervous about going to a restaurant alone. Some feel they will be judged by others or pitied because they lack a companion. According to an article called  Eating alone? The new American diner flies solo , 57% of people dining out are solo diners.  I would say that most people don't judge those of us who dine solo.  If perchance someone does it

Book of the Month Club-A Book Subscription Box

Image
The Book Of The Month Book Box is a great way to find new books for your collection.  I have been a member since 2019. Each month they select 5-7 books for you to choose from.  If you don't like the selections, you can skip that month without a charge to you.  I take a look at the selections and then research them on Goodreads and then decide if I want to purchase a book that month.  I have been paying $14.99 for each book.  This is what they say about pricing on the site... "Your Book of the Month is $12.50-$16.99 depending on your membership plan". ...and shipping is free. I have purchased many books from Book of the Month over the years.  I still have several on my to-be-read bookshelf that I have not gotten to yet.  According to my bookshelf on the site, I have 14 books to read and rate.   Of the books I have read so far, I have rated 4 of them five stars... I gave the ones below 3-4 stars...   The books below I did not like at all! If you want to see my reviews you c

Foodie Friday-What do you look for in a Watermelon? Tips to Selecting the Perfect Watermelon.

Image
I decided to repost this article because it is watermelon season is drawing near.   These helpful hints in choosing the best watermelon have been on the money for me.   I love watermelon.  I can remember as a kid on the farm sitting outside with a huge slice of watermelon.  Forget the plates and forks and knives.  My mom would hand me a juicy slice, and then I would proceed to take a bite.  My dad taught me the fine art of sprinkling salt on my watermelon.  Delicious! "Salt makes watermelon taste sweeter by creating a salty sweet contrast that allows the sweetness of the melon to stand out."  Baking Bites Have you ever headed to the local market in search of a mouth-watering melon only to realize you had no idea how to pick the perfect one?  Most of us have watched our parents thump on a melon listening for that classic ripe sound.  I have done this myself, having no idea what tone I was seeking.  Sometimes I was lucky and picked the perfect one, and other times I was

Wine Pairing with Spaghetti-What Wine Should I Serve With Spaghetti?

Image
I enjoy pairing different foods with wine.  Do I have any knowledge of how to do so?  Nope.  I will go to google to figure out which wine I should pair with spaghetti. My grandkids have told me that I make the best spaghetti in the world.  Considering I am using canned tomato sauce, a bit of hamburger, and dried pasta I buy in the grocery store, that is quite a compliment.  My secret ingredient is adding just a touch of sugar to the sauce, which cuts the acidity of the tomato sauce.  So what type of wine is suggested to serve with your basic spaghetti?   I have found after reading several articles that the best wine to serve with spaghetti has to do with what ingredients are in the spaghetti. If your spaghetti has an acidic red sauce, it is best to serve it with an acidic wine.  The types of whites suggested are Sauvignon Blanc, Rose, Pino Grigio, or Riesling.  The reds suggested are Merlot, Shiraz, Nebbiolo and Zinfandel.  I always add ground beef to my spaghetti sauce, and a medium o

Travel Tuesday-My Visit to Apex North Carolina Part Two-Visiting a Few Downtown Shops

Image
One thing I wanted to do on my Apex visits was to visit the shops downtown.  I was there on a Monday, and many of the shops were closed, but I found a few that were open, and what a great experience. The first shop I explored was named Stylish Living .  I have been to this shop before, and I love it; they have so much to offer.  They have home decor, jewelry, bath and body products, toys, collectibles, and the list goes on. It is a beautiful store to shop for yourself, your friends and family, and to do some holiday shopping.   I came across these adorable little mice at Stylish Living.  They are from a company called Maileg which is located in Denmark.   I decided to buy one for Jane.  We named her Tina.  She has a little bed that slips into a lovely box that says Little Miss Mouse.  I have already decided to buy one for Maggie for Christmas. Adorable! The second store I visited on the main street is called Sixpence Accents . Here is how they describe their store on their site "
