What North Carolina has a State Rock? Yes, and I know what it is....Granite

Image
Were you aware that states have a designated state rock?  I know we have the state bird, and the state flower but I was not aware of the state rock.  I looked it up on Wikipedia and they have a list of   "U.S. State Minerals, Rocks, Stones and Gemstones."   So what is our state rock you ask? Our state rock is Granite. "The General Assembly of 1979 designated  Granites   the official Rock for the State of North Carolina." Quote from the Reference Desk I like to think that I am staying true to my home state of NC because I have granite countertops.  Full disclosure, when I purchased my countertops, I had no idea this was the state rock/stone:-) "The State of North Carolina has been blessed with an abundant source of "the noble rock," granite. Just outside Mount Airy in Surry County is the largest open face granite quarry in the world measuring one mile long and 1,800 feet in width. The granite from this quarry is unblemished, gleaming,

Welcome to the World of Online Dating...Red Flags

Image
I never thought I would be saying "Welcome to the World of Online Dating," but here we are.  After a decade's long marriage I find myself on a dating site.  Who would have thought? I am doing my research.  I have visited many sites that discuss online dating.  On these sites, there are lists of precautions or "red flags," things to avoid.  Today I thought we would visit one that I found listed as a red flag on many sites....The Blurry Profile Photo. I have consulted numerous dating sites for their opinion on the blurry profile photo.  Most of the experts agree that this may be a red flag.  Here is the consensus. *If someone has only one picture and it is blurry they may be trying to hide something.  This person may be insecure about who they are and could be misrepresenting themselves. *Many agree that if there is only one blurry photo in a group of clear images, it is probably an innocent mistake. *It could be a fake profile. *If the person does not take the

Morning Motivation...How do We React When God has the Nerve to say No?

Does God answer all of our prayers?  I think he does, but we may not always get the answer we want.  I believe sometimes He says "yes" to our request, sometimes "no," and at other times the answer may be "not today." I like this quote by CS Lewis.. "We are not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us;  we are wondering how painful the best will turn out to be." The list of entirely reasonable requests sent up to God has no limit.  We may be asking for a soulmate; we may be praying for a positive outcome for our friends and family,  we may be looking for the perfect job, for financial security.  Why wouldn't God say yes to all of these requests?  After all, we have given our lives to Him, we have put our trust in His love for us.  Why would He say no to something that would make everyone's life easier, better? The Silent Treatment There are many ways to react when God, our father says "no."  I will

How to Connect With Others When You Travel Solo

Image
I love to travel.  I enjoy exploring my home state of North Carolina and across the state lines to other areas of the world.  Now that I am divorced I do travel alone.  I figure if I wait for someone to go with me I may never go, so I take the gladly accept the challenge of a solo adventure.  I do enjoy my time alone, but I also enjoy meeting new people on my travels.  I consulted Google on just how to connect with others while on a solo travel adventure. On my Google search, I found that this is a popular topic.  Some of the ideas are easy to do at a moments notice, and others take a bit of planning. Lodging:  There were many suggestions on places to stay that may open the door to meeting new people.  At an AirB&B you would be meeting the host family, and at a Bed and Breakfast, you would meet the owners and fellow travelers.  Some folks meet others while staying at hotels while relaxing in the hotel lobby or at the hotel bar.  Hostels were also highly recommended for meetin

The Joy

"Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored." Earl  Nightingale My family does bring me great joy, and I am beyond thankful for them. "Joy is strength." Mother Teresa Wishing you joy! KathieyV:-)

North Carolina Trivia, The Venus Flytrap

Image
Now for a bit of North Carolina Trivia.   The Venus Fly Trap... Here is wikipedia had to say about the Venus Flytrap. "The  Venus flytrap  (also referred to as  Venus's flytrap  or  Venus' flytrap ),  Dionaea muscipula , is a  carnivorous plant  native to  subtropical  wetlands  on the  East Coast  of the  United States  in  North Carolina  and  South Carolina .  It catches its prey—chiefly  insects  and  arachnids —with a trapping structure formed by the terminal portion of each of the plant's leaves, which is triggered by tiny hairs on their inner surfaces."  Where can you go to see venus flytraps in the wild?   There is a Flytrap Trail at Carolina Beach State Park.  You could also go to the Green Park Preserve .  So if you are playing trivia and the Venus Flytrap comes up here is what you need to know.  The following information comes from Apple Pest Control . *The Venus Flytrap is native to East coast of North and South Carolina. *Robot Fl
