Recipe Review…."Pick a Picnic" from Taste of Home Magazine

Image
Here is an easy picnic-style meal that I really enjoyed.  It is quick and easy, and delicious. Rather than cooking one evening, visit your local grocery store and put together this delicious  Picnic Style Meal-Pick a Picnic I love Taste of Home Magazine; it contains many recipes and ideas.   I remember looking through the June/July issue and seeing a lovely picnic spread.   It had been a hectic day, and I had no time to cook, so I put together an indoor picnic tray.  I went to Harris Teeter to mimic the Taste of Home version of the picnic goodies.  Here is what I came up with… Fruited Chicken Salad…Yum Cherry Tomatoes Pita Bread and Hummus Cucumbers Peaches Poppy Seed Dressing….Next time I would go with Ranch Dressing or Lite Sweet Vidalia Onion Dressing by Paul Newman-So good! It This little picnic was delicious and, to make it even better, it was extremely easy.  I made myself a plate, grabbed a glass of wine, and sett...

Just For Fun on a Friday-Photos, Food and Fun!

Image
I hope you are doing well this rainy Friday morning.  It is raining here in NC, and this Easter weekend forecast calls for rain, but on Sunday, the rain will lift, and it is supposed to be a beautiful day.   Photo of the week... I found a quote about flowers.  This quote reminds me of my early days during the divorce process when I was in a terrible way.  I would always say that God's beauty still surrounds us even in our pain. I hope you have some fun plans for this Easter weekend.  I will be spending time with my kids and grandkids.  For the easter dinner, I have been assigned deviled eggs and then to also bring some sparkling rose.  My deviled eggs are pretty basic but still taste delicious.  For the filling, I just add the egg yokes, mayo, salt and pepper, and sweet pickle juice.  Everything is added to taste.  I then beat it til smooth and then pipe it into the egg half.  Easy and yummy. Here are two deviled egg platters ...

Recipe Review .."Honey-Peanut Butter Cookies" from Taste of Home

Image
Below is a blog post was written about eleven years ago when Caleb was a baby.   I am resharing this post and the cookie recipe. Give them a try; they a very good! Blast From the Past Over the weekend, Stephanie, Josh, and baby Caleb came for a visit.  It was wonderful! When they left to visit Josh's family, I had a choice.  I could take a nap which sounded inviting, or I could do something constructive.  After a mental debate, I decided to make cookies, so they would have a treat when they returned home.  I pulled out my recipe binder and came across an oldie but goodie...Honey Peanut Butter Cookies from Taste of Home Magazine. I gathered my ingredients. A 9.5 on my cooking scale.Yum:-) I preheated my oven to 350 degrees F. I mixed the shortening, peanut butter, and honey with my mixer.  Then I added the eggs and mixed them well.  Then I combined the dry ingredients in a different bowl and whisked them together. ...

The Results of My Magazine Adventure-"Cuisine At Home" the Jan/Feb 2019 Edition

Image
It has been several weeks since I planned my Magazine Adventure from Cuisine At Home Magazine.    I did not complete everything on my list, but I did manage to make several of the recipes.  Below you will find the list of the recipes and my thoughts on each that I tried.  I did a Recipe Review on one of the recipes, and you will see the link below the description of that recipe. Let's go through the magazine and pick several recipes... 1- Lobster Thermidor 2- Parmesan Twice Baked Potato 3- Lemon Blancmange with Raspberry Sauce 4- Mediterranean Chicken Calzones  I was really excited about this one, but it was a bust.  I gave it a 2/10 and ended up throwing most of it away.  I don't think the problem was the recipe; I think the problem was the pizza dough.  The filling was tasty, but the dough was stiff and thin.  I will not make this again. It was not pretty before baking and even less so after baking. 5- Hashbrown and egg breakfast cups . I w...

Magazine Adventure-"Cuisine At Home" the Jan/Feb 2019 Edition

Image
One thing I have always wanted to do was to explore a magazine and bring that magazine to life.  I have a stack of old cooking magazines so I decided to start with one of those.  I will search the magazine and choose a few items to bring to life.   Let's go through the magazine and pick several recipes... Here are a few tidbits I found in the magazine. *What is fiedeos? (fih-Day-ohs)-Fideos is a Spanish word for Noodles. *Here is a quote that I liked "Eat everything in moderation, and don't forget your fruits and vegetables."  Maddy Bendgen *I found a rose' I want to try Called Ruinart Rose'.  It is a Rose' Champagne that was founded in 1792.  It is said to be lush yet delicate with notes of pink grapefruit and red berries.  Sounds good to me.  The article said it could be purchased at local retailers.  I will have to go on the search. The plan is to choose a few recipes that I like and make as many of them as I can in the month of Janu...

New "Pinterest Plan" December 6, 2021-Recipes and More

Image
If you are like me, you love Pinterest.  I have many boards and tons of saved ideas.  I was thinking I wanted to use recipes and other tips and techniques I have saved on Pinterest.  I know I will never use all the posts at my fingertips unless I have a plan.  I thought, why not make a Pinterest Plan.  It will vary from week to week.  I know I won't always accomplish my goals, and if I don't, I can move it forward to the next plan or just make an entirely different plan.  I have chosen five items for my Pinterest Plan so let's get started. 1 -  Crock Pot Hot Chocolate.   As the weather gets colder, I find myself looking for the perfect hot chocolate recipe.  I have not found one yet, so I thought I would give this crockpot recipe a try.  This recipe is on my board called  Yummy Drinks to Try .  The actual recipe comes from Melissa's Southern Style Kitchen, and here is the link to the recipe  Crock Pot Hot Choco...

Food/Recipes: "The Perfect Tomato Sandwich" Plus a link to my Youtube Channel

Image
There is nothing quite like a tomato sandwich in the summertime.  With an endless supply of ripe red tomatoes available, it was time for me to craft a yummy tomato sandwich. When I was a kid, my mom used to send me to school with a delicious tomato sandwich.  It consisted of white bread, plenty of Hellman's Mayo, cheese, beef bologna, and salt and pepper.  She would pack it my lunch box and send me off to school.  We did not have temp controlled lunch boxes in those days, and so my sandwich would sit in my hot lunch box.  For all those hours before lunch, the sandwich ingredients would slowly meld together to produce a perfect Soggy Tomato Sandwich.  Sooooo good! I decided to make my sandwich with white bread, tomatoes, Hellman's Mayo, turkey, onion, and cheese and of course salt and pepper.  I made my lovely sandwich and then cut it in half.  I decided to eat the fresh half for lunch and then have the other half for dinner, and by that t...

Recipe Review..."Flatlander Chili" from All Recipes.

Image
Happy Holidays Everyone! I made this last night for our Christmas PJ and Book Exchange night. I had an old blog post that I had put together years ago on this recipe so I thought I would share it with you.  It is a quick, easy and yummy chili. Enjoy:-) Steph Josh and Erica were coming home and we were going to the North Carolina State Fair.  So what would be easy to make and keep us fed for a couple of days?  Chili! There is nothing like a bowl of Chili.  I remember coming home from school when I was little and being thrilled when mom was whipping up a big pot of chili.  Smelled so good! I have always called chili.....well.....just that, chili.   In Texas, they call it a "bowl of big red".  My co-worker Kristin calls her chili a bowl of chili beans.  I pictured just a bowl of beans, but no,  it is just regular chili just given a regional name. I went online and did a bit of reading about chili.  In different parts o...
