The Pepsi Story New Bern North Carolina

Image
Did you know that New Bern North Carolina was the birth place of Pepsi Cola?   I did not.  On my trip to New Bern I had the pleasure of visiting The  Pepsi Store . (Note: In italics you will find quotes from various sites about Pepsi) "The Birthplace of Pepsi, located in historic New Bern, North Carolina, is the actual site where Pepsi-Cola was first invented by Caleb Bradham in his pharmacy in 1898" "On August 28, 1898, Bradham renamed his drink “Pepsi-Cola." He believed the drink was more than a refreshment but a “healthy” cola, aiding in digestion, getting its roots from the word dyspepsia, meaning indigestion." The Pepsi Store Website   The store has a nice bar area when you can enjoy a Pepsi beverage.... 1906 -  Pepsi gets another logo change, the third in eight years. The modified script logo is created with the slogan, "The Original Pure Food Drink." The Pepsi Store Website    "Mountain Dew  (stylized as  Mtn Dew )

Morning Motivation My Sunday Song; "Hosanna" Brooke Fraser

Image
I enjoy going back to my old posts.  These posts are from a different time and what can feel like a different life.  But it is not a different life; it is my life.  A reminder that God was with me on my journey then and continues to be with me/us today. In the past, I would publish what I called Sunday Songs.  I worship best through music.  Music touches my heart and soul. This particular post was written back in 2010 and speaks of the loss of my brother David. I have listened to this song several times as I was preparing to re-share this post.  I had forgotten how much I loved it.  I soaked in the music, and the lyrics of the song and then the video flowed into the bridge, my favorite part.  As the bridge played, I raised my hands closed my eyes and worshiped. (I think I will listen to it again:-) Post from 2010 Last night I had a dream about my brother David who died about a year ago.  We were very close, and I miss him deeply.  It was a beautiful dream; we were at the farm w

Morning Motivation; Sorrow Into Dancing.

Image
I read a book several years ago called "Small Island" by Andrea Levy."  There is a quote that I came across in my reading that really touched me...... "He looked so pained that I dreamed of taking his hands and making him dance." This statement was directed to someone that was not particularly nice; he was a harsh self-centered person.  But her compassion for his pain made her want to help him, to make him dance.  Wow, to me that is pretty powerful.  An example of God's love in a way. "By you my sorrow is turned into dancing,  you have taken away my clothing of grief and given me robes of joy"  Psalm 30:11 Thank You God! KathieyV

Book Review; The Woman in the Window by A.J.Finn

Image
"The Woman in the Widow" Author-A.J. Finn Genre-Fiction Pages 427 Ratings: Amazon 4/5 stars. Good Reads 4.3/5 stars.                                                        Below is a description from GoodReads . "Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare. What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems." My Thoughts.. I ordered this book to take on vacation.  Once I started reading, I did not want to stop.  I finished

"Udder Pecan" Ice Cream at Cow Cafe in New Bern North Carolina. Yummy!

Image
As I was exploring downtown New Bern I stumbled upon the cutest cafe, The Cow Cafe . It was a rather hot day, and the thought of ice cream was inviting.   So I decided to check it out. Here is a quote from their website... "The black and white Holstein awnings is the hint that Cow Cafe isn't your ordinary eatery.  Nestled deep in the cow country of New Bern, North Carolina (or Moo Bern in cow language), we serve a full line of sandwiches, wraps, salads, plates and, of course,  HOMEMADE ICE CREAM!" The menu items looked good, but I was here for the ice cream.  I decided to go with the "Udder Pecan".  (I used to enjoy butter pecan ice cream with my mom, it was her favorite). There is a variety of seating.  The main dinning room is in the front of the restaurant. In the back is a room that the kids will love.  This room has an outdoor feel with the walls painted to look as though you are on the farm. Read the history of the Cow Cafe here .

Light in the Darkness; Quote by KathieyV (North Carolina Writer Quote)

Morning Motivation; God's Light Can Cut Through Our Darkness

Image
"Light can be seen even in the darkness.   The light from the stars on a very dark night.   The light from a lighthouse in the midnight hours. The light from a candle in a darkened room. The light from a fireplace on a cold winter evening. And, the light of God's love can cut through our darkness." KathieyV I know many of us have experienced times we felt as though we were in utter darkness.  The depth of that darkness may be so all-encompassing that the thought of looking for a light never enters our mind.  It is as if we are engulfed by darkness.   There are endless forms this darkness can take.  It could be sickness, death, divorce, violence, injustice, poverty and the list goes on.   In my case, the darkness that enveloped me was the pain of a betrayal, a separation, and finally a divorce.  I did not see any light in my darkest times, but I kept praying and leaned heavily on God and his promises.. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness ha

Restaurant Review ZenFish Poke' Bar in Morrisville NC

Image
ZenFish Poke Bar 9924 Chapel Hill Road Morrisville, NC  27560 Their Moto is "Guilt-Free, Healthy, Fast-Casual Dining" ZenFish "And when we say  good , we mean our ingredients are sourced from local farmers  as much as possible and everything we use is compostable -  so you can feel great about what you're eating."  ZenFish First off what is a poke bowl?  It would be a good thing to get the pronunciation right.  It looked like poke, so that is what I said: "Poke."  The correct way to say the word is "POH-keh." I looked up the  definition and here is what Wikipedia had to say... Poke  (Hawaiian for "to section" or "to slice or cut") is a raw fish salad served as an appetizer in Hawaiian cuisine, and sometimes as a main course. ... Increasingly popular ahi  poke  is generally made with yellowfin tuna." At ZenFish they do have raw protein options and they have many cooked options as well

Beware of the Bears. The New Bern Bear Town Bears in New Bern NC

Image
I wanted to take a walking tour while in New Bern and one tour that piqued my interest was "New Bern Area Bear Town Bears".   There are over 50 bears in the to be found in the New Bern area, I decided to search for the "Downtown Bear Town Bears." Why are there bears in New Bern you may ask?  Here is a quote from the brochure that explains everything. "New Bern was settled in 1710 by Swiss and Palatine German immigrants led by Baron Christoph DeGraffenried. The new colonists named the settlement Bern, the capital of Switzerland and hometown of their leader.   Many years before New Bern was settled, Bern, Switzerland was founded by a group of hunters who named the city after the first animal they came upon on their hunting expedition ... A bear.  "Bern" is the old Germanic word for bear and the bear came to be the symbol of the city." After enjoying a delicious breakfast at the Aerie Bed and Breakfast I headed out map and camera in hand i
