October Party Plan-Let's Have a Pumpkin Carving Party with Recipes

Image
Well, it is that time again.  Time to plan a party.  It is October, and the choices for fall parties are endless.  I decided to plan a pumpkin carving party for October. Let's start with the pumpkins.  You can elect to provide the pumpkins or ask your guests to BYOP (Bring Your Own Pumpkin).  I have decided to ask folks to bring their own pumpkin and pumpkin carving tools.   Pumpkin carving can be messy, so you must prepare an area that allows easy cleanup.  Ideally, I will carve my pumpkins outside, but if that is not an option, you have to cover your table and have containers to retrieve the pumpkin seeds for roasting later and another container for the pumpkin's guts. Let's head to Amazon to see what we can find to set up our pumpkin carving station. 1- Pumpkin Carving Masterpieces: Halloween Pumpkin Carving Stencils, 140 Patterns Unique Easy and Complicated 2- Pumpkin Carving Stencils: 50 Halloween Templates for Carving Pumpkins 3- CANDLE CHOICE Ha...

Six New Book Releases For November 2024 That Caught My Eye!

Image
Here are a few books that caught my eye that will be released in November 2024.   1-The Sunflower House Historical Fiction, Romance, WWII, Holocaust by Adriana Allegri Release Date: November 12, 2024 Good Reads gave it 4.61/5 stars   Family secrets come to light as a young woman fights to save herself, and others, in a Nazi-run baby factory—a real-life Handmaid's Tale—during World War II. In a sleepy German village, Allina Strauss’s life seems idyllic: she works at her uncle’s bookshop, makes strudel with her aunt, and spends weekends with her friends and fiancé. But it's 1939, Adolf Hitler is Chancellor, and Allina’s family hides a terrifying secret—her birth mother was Jewish, making her a Mischling. One fateful night after losing everyone she loves, Allina is forced into service as a nurse at a state-run baby factory called Hochland Home. There, she becomes both witness and participant to the horrors of Heinrich Himmler’s ruthless eugenics program. The Sunflower Hous...

Journal Prompt-What is Your Favorite Flavor of Ice Cream? Share an Ice Cream Story from Your Past.

Image
What is my favorite flavor of ice cream? That is a tough question because there are so many delicious flavors from which to choose. I guess my favorite flavor is chocolate, although my favorite emotional flavor is Butter Pecan. My mom loved Butter Pecan ice cream, so I think of my mom when I indulge in that ice cream flavor.  When my dad made ice cream, he used an old crank ice cream maker. I remember him putting in the cream and adding salt around the sides of the machine. I, too, remember him using the hand crank. It seemed to take forever, but he kept cranking. I recall in the initial ice cream phase turning the crank was easy, and as the ice cream thickened, I remember my dad working hard to produce an ice cream treat for the family.  My mom loved ice cream. She loved a hot fudge sundae as well. I recall going to Woolworth's with her, where she would, on rare occasions, allow herself to enjoy her beloved hot fudge sundae. As much as she loved this treat, she would w...

Inspirational Quotes-A Quote by Eleanor Roosevelt

Image
Inspirational Quote by Eleanor Roosevelt. I enjoy Eleanor Roosevelt's many beautiful quotes. This one is so simple but completely accurate. When we doubt ourselves and don't push on in what we know we should be doing, we fail ourselves and others. I have written two books, and I am slowly working on the third.  I know this book can help others on their divorce journey, but I feel stuck/lost in the process.  The problem is that I must figure out how to market my books.  I feel as if this is one of those things that I feel I cannot do, as Eleanor would say.  I need to take her advice and do this anyway, or it will not get done.  If it does not get done, I have let myself down and those who could benefit from my experience and research.  So I will plug on and hopefully find the answers to completing what I must do. This quote is for me...   " You must do the things you think you cannot do."  Eleanor Roosevelt With this quote in mind, I will cont...

Image
Let's continue our series on Self-Care and Stress Relief.   Today, let's take a look at Stress Relief and Music. Music can make us feel good...listening to the right music can change our mood. Listening to music can stimulate dopamine in our brain, also known as the feel-good hormone in our body.  Music can be used as a therapeutic tool to reduce stress, promote healing, and improve one’s overall emotional well-being. "In addition to helping human beings experience positive emotions, listening to music has also been associated with improving our physical health and well-being." Michiagan State University The ability to listen to music is available to nearly everyone.  It is usually low cost, and there is a genre for everyone. "Contemporary research suggests music has significant power to help reduce stress and anxiety, relieve pain, and improve focus, among many more benefits." Monthly Motivation: Choose Your Path

Image
Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go," Joshua 1:9 Sometimes, where we find ourselves may not be where we want to be.  Sometimes, we did not choose to be in this place, but it was thrust upon us.  Regardless of our situation, we can rest assured that, as Christians, God is with us.  Maybe where we find ourselves is not our chosen path, but the one thing we can do is decide how we react to the situation.  We can now attempt to make a new path, knowing that God is "with us wherever we go."  What a blessing! Here is a quote by Kristin Armstrong concerning choosing our path... "This choice not only affects you, but it can shape the legacy  you leave for your children and grandchildren." Our choices affect everyone.  With God's help, I pray I make the right ones.  God Bless You On This Journey KathieyV:-)

Travel North Carolina-The North Carolina Gourd Arts and Crafts Festival 2024

Image
Every month I put out a post on "A Few Things to do In North Carolina" for that month.  It seems that most times I don't get the chance to visit any of the events I suggest but in September I did have the opportunity to attend an event.  I went to The North Carolina Gourd Arts and Crafts Festival held at the State Fair Grounds in Raleigh.  The Gourd Festival is put on by the NC Gourd Society .  Here is how they describe themselves... "The North Carolina Gourd Society (formerly the Gourd Village Garden Club) first met in Cary in 1937. The oldest chapter (“alpha chapter”) of the American Gourd Society, it is among the oldest garden clubs in North Carolina. Early festivals were held in the school cannery, a dry cleaners and a furniture store. Over the years festivals have featured dolls, a gourmet gourd buffet, hard-working, practical gourds, Mother Goose gourds and many others.  We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in North Carolina dedicated to the cult...
