Books, Music, Movies and TV-Entertainment Wrap-Up For September 2023

Image
Entertainment Wrap-Up Welcome to my entertainment wrap-up.  Below are the books I am reading, the shows and movies I am watching, and one music video just for fun. Rocky and I decided we would go to the movies.  We looked at what was playing and decided to go see The Equalizer 3 with Denzel Washington.  I had not seen the previous two movies.  We could not find the first one but decided to watch the Equalizer 2.  I really enjoyed it.  It is violent, but he is fighting the bad guys so it is justified in my mind. After watching The Second Equalizer, we headed off to the theater to see the third one.  You don't have to see the second to enjoy the third, but there are a few things you would not understand if you had not seen it, so I suggest you do.  I did enjoy the second better than the third.  It is still a good movie, though. Keep in mind it is pretty graphic in regard to violence. Then we decided to go see another movie.  It is g...

Tell Your Story Journal Prompt-Share a Memory of A September Day or Share Your Idea Fall Day

Image
I think it is important to share our story.  Not only the tragic and difficult times of our lives but the happy and exciting times.  It is also important to share our hopes and dreams.  I think this can be done through journaling.   Many times those that we love the most really don't know who we are; everyone is busy going their own ways, which is not good or bad, just life in this busy world.  Although one day, perhaps,  someone may say, "I wish I would have taken the time to know them better."   Journaling not only tells your story but also helps you process who you are, your joys, your pain, your thoughts, your feelings, and your experiences.  If you are trying to process something in your life, journaling may even help you develop a plan to address that issue. Now in my 60s, I have so many questions I would love to ask my Mom. If she had left a journal, maybe some of my questions would have been answered.  Now we have the opportunit...

A Quote of Truth-Think Before Your Judge. Victim vs Abuser

Image
How many times have you heard someone going off about someone in a negative way?  In your mind, you may be thinking, "Wait a minute, that can't be right." Or maybe you are listening to an ex-spouse saying how crazy his ex is, and you are taking it in at face value as fact.  I would say wait before you judge, think again.  Many ex-spouses, especially narcissists, tend to say some pretty bad things about the ex in order to build themselves up or to make themselves look like the victim.   Here is what was said on  Quora "Talking bad about you validates him/her. A narcissist, at their core, are insecure and anxious with low self-esteem. All ex-partners are evidence of a failure. This is threatening to them on many levels, so they need everyone around them to know that the relationship failed because their partner was a bad partner." "Narcissists need to validate their failings by pinning blame on someone else." I found typical lies a narcissist tell about...

Foodie Friday-Five of the Best Apples For Baking This Fall

Image
🍎🍏 A Few of the Best Apples For Baking🍎🍏 Fall is nearly here, and I am so happy.  Fall is my favorite time of year.  A popular fruit this time of year is the apple and there are so many fantastic things you can make with apples.   I would love to make some recipes that include apples, but I never know what type of apple I should use because they are not all created equal.  I had read somewhere that the best apples for baking are the ones that keep their structure and don't turn to mush in the baking process.   If I were to go to the grocery store to select apples for a recipe, I would tend to pick what I thought was the prettiest apple and not make an informed decision base on specific apples.  With that in mind, I decided to do some research to find the best apple to use for fall recipes that include apples.  Let's head to Google. 🍎🍏 The Granny Smith Apple One of the most popular baking apples, the classic Granny Smith puts the American in apple...

Travel North Carolina - A Visit to Beautiful Lake Lure

Image
I have lived in North Carolina since the early '90s.  I had heard of Lake Lure but have not taken the time to visit until now.  I don't know why I waited so long.  It is beautiful. I will share some of my photos and some tidbits I found online... A bit of history... In 1925, the Morse family created Carolina Mountain Power Company and funded the construction of a dam on the Broad River (through a mortgage) which produced the  lake  after which the town is named. The full impoundment of  Lake Lure  was completed in 1927. Wikipedia  The best way to see the lake was to venture out onto the lake.  You can take a pontoon boat ride with Lake Lure Tours , which is what I decided to do.  It takes about an hour, and you have a lovely cruise on the lake and learn a bit about Lake Lure and its history. A Few Photos of The Journey There are houses of all shapes and sizes on the lake. Lovely views from the pontoon boat... ...
