Let's Have a Teddy Bear Picnic!

All of my life, I have heard of a Teddy Bear Picnic.  The thought of having a nice meal with cute teddy bears always intrigued me.  I am going to head to Wikipedia to learn more about exactly what a Teddy Bear Picnic is...

History

The Teddy bear, affectionally called a Teddie, was invented in the early 20th century in Germany. The Teddy Bear is named after Theodore Roosevelt, also known as Teddy Roosevelt.

No one knows the origin of the Teddy Bear Picnic, but there are a couple of thoughts.  One is that in the 1920s, a social worker felt bad for orphaned children and was trying to improve their lives by hosting this picnic. Another thought about the origin is that it is based on a book called The Teddy Bear Picnic, written in 1914.

Teddy Bears

One of the main components of The Teddy Bear Picnic is, of course, the Teddy Bear. I am going to head over to Amazon to see what I can find.

What is a Teddy Bear Party without at least a few decorations?  I am not going to go crazy, but I will look for a few items on Amazon to enhance the festivities.

Food

There are many options for food for a Teddy Bear Picnic.  I have opted to serve things I know everybody likes.  We will have...

• Pizza
• Hot Dogs with all the fixings 
• Teddy Grahams
• Lemonade
• Chips
• Fruit
• Ice Cream with toppings

Other foods to consider may be Gummy Bears, anything with honey, and maybe chocolate bees because if you are outside, you may see a bee or two:-)

Games

1. Pass the Teddy!

Think pass the parcel - but teddy bears picnic party style! This is one of the best teddy bear picnic ideas if you’re hosting a group of kids at your picnic that is sure to keep them occupied (and sat in an orderly circle for once!) Simply press play on your teddy bear picnic playlist and hit pause every thirty seconds or so. When the music stops, the child left holding the bear is out. The last child left wins and gets a prize. 

2. Hide The Teddy Bear/Hot and Cold Hide and Seek.

Since there will be two young ones at my party, I thought Hide and Seek may be a bit easier if we do hot and cold or yes and no as they search for the teddy.

The Itinerary

1-Ahead of Time, Select the Teddy Bears for Each Child.

(I gave each grandchild the choice of different teddy bears, but they won't get them until the party)

2-Buy any food needed for the party.

3-Decorate the table

The Day of the Party

4-Everyone seated at the table and distribute the Teddy Bears

5-Sing the Teddy Bear Picnic Song

6-Time to Eat/Save Dessert For Last at the end of the party.

7-Watch the Book Videos

8-Games

9-Dessert
