Dr. Frank's Winery Hammondsport, New York
Due to the Corona Virus, there is still not a lot of travel going on. I would love to drop everything and take a trip but the problem would be getting to a location and finding little in the way of lodging or restaurants that are open. With that in mind I thought we would do a travel blast from the past. Check out Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery....

While traveling with the Road Scholars in NY I had the opportunity to see several wonderful wineries. Among them was Dr. Frank's Winery.
"Dr. Konstantin Frank ignited the “Vinifera Revolution” a movement that forever changed the course of wine growing in the Finger Lakes and the United States."
First off, what is Vinifera? I consulted Google and found this definition...a common European grape (Vitis vinifera) that is the chief source of Old World wine and table grape varieties
"In 1962, merely a decade after arriving in America, Dr. Frank founded Vinifera Wine Cellars. The winery quickly earned a reputation for spectacular Rieslings and its original planting of vines formed the backbone of New York’s world-class wines and champagnes."
The drive that day was lovely. Blue skies and grapevines. Nothing could make it better than a nice glass of wine. And believe me, I did indulge in a glass of wine and I was not disappointed:-)
The tasting room was very nice. We spent a lot of time learning about and tasting the wines.

"Overlooking the crystal clear waters of Keuka Lake, our winery offers breath-taking views year-round. Situated in the former home of Dr. Konstantin Frank, our main tasting room is both cozy and welcoming."

That red flower! Beautiful!! So, how did the Riesling here compare to the one at Cloer Family Vineyards?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by J.A. I would say it was a bit less sweet then the one here in NC. Both are wonderful in their own way:-)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a beautiful area! I'm hoping to check out the Finger Lakes area soon; I'll have to look this up when I go!
