Food and Wine Adventures- North Carolina Wine-Hinnant Family Winery in Pine Level NC

Wine Adventures

I am on a mission to visit at least one winery or wine-related establishment a month.  This month we have visited two wineries.  Karen and I went to FireClay Vineyards in Siler City, NC, and then last week, we visited Hinnant Family Vineyards in Pine Level, NC.  Where I live in Cary, it takes a little over an hour to get there.  It is an easy drive.

I will put some quotes from their website in italics for you.  Learn more on their About Us page.  Be aware also that there are some Covid Related Restrictions. Check out the website to learn more.

"It all started in 1971...In the early years, grapes were sold to fresh markets, other vineyards, & to the public......the doors opened, and in 2003 the first bottle was sold."
"Building upon the original acreage growing to a 100 acres of grapes, the Hinnant Family Vineyards & Winery is the oldest and largest commercial Muscadine vineyard in the state of North Carolina."

We were ready for the wine tasting.  We were greeted by a very nice young man who explained how the tasting worked.  He introduced us to many of the Hinnant Family wines.  He knew the wines well, and we learned much about each wine's flavors and levels of sweetness of each wine They have a dry wine option that I really enjoyed.  Their wines tend to run on the sweet side as most eastern NC wines do, and I found I really enjoyed them.

"Our tastings are offered daily & will allow you to sample a wide variety of our award winning wines from dry to sweet. Tastings are $10 per person & include a souvienier glass to take with you.
We also offer a Port add on to our regular tasting for an additional $3, which includes a sample of all three of our Port wines".

They also offer wine flights and wine by the glass.   The winery tours are suspended due to COVID, which I am finding to be the case in most wineries today.

This lovely bar below was not opened.  It looks as if it could accommodate a lot of people. Due to Covid, they restrict the number of people that can attend a tasting. Our tasting was in the front room of the winery at a smaller but very nice bar.

"Located in Pine Level, North Carolina, Hinnant Family Vineyards is the largest muscadine vineyard in North Carolina, sprawling over 100 acres.
From our dry white and reds to our traditional sweet scuppernong, we catch a spectrum of flavors in our international award-winning wines.
"
You can read more about each wine on the website.  Here is a link to the "shop" page on their site.

You will find plenty of seating at Hinnant Winery.  The seating options are both indoor and out. I like that you can order a glass of wine and sit outside with a view of the vineyard, or you can relax on the very nice front porch.

They do have some snack options...

"Our gift shop offers a wide variety of Ashe County cheese, crackers, jams & jellies, local peanuts, and other snacks to enjoy while you are with us or to take home with you."

After our tasting, Karen and I each enjoyed a glass of wine.  We even bought a few bottles to take home.

If you find yourself near Smithfield, NC, it is just a short drive to Hinnant Family Vineyards.  I suggest you give them a try, you won't be disappointed. I know I wasn't

I like the following statement they made on their website...

"So it is our family to yours that we dedicate each bottle we process here at Hinnant Family Vineyards with the hopes that our extended family, our clients, and customers, will enjoy and treasure the memories each bottle of wine is sure to bring."

Happy Wine Tasting, Everyone!
