Groupon Adventure, Fair Game Beverage Co.

I have found  social sites such as Groupon and Living Social can be a catalyst for adventure.  My latest Groupon was no exception.  I saw a Groupon distillery tasting for two in the town of Pittsboro NC.  I thought, "Pittsboro is not very far and I have never been to a distillery so why not go?"  I pushed the buy button called Cindy and before we knew it we were on our way to Fair Game Beverage Company.
We took a dark dirt/gravel road that seemed to be leading nowhere, but we kept going.  Before we knew it we came upon an area of warehouse like buildings.  There are several businesses there, but we had our sites on Fair Game.  We entered the small cozy bar and our adventure began.
Here are some comments from their site....
"At the heart of our wines and spirits are the fruits, grains and juices and the people who grow them. We work hard to source high-quality fruits, grains and juices directly from North Carolina and southeastern grower".

Media Motivation from the book "The Boston Girl", that lead me to a movie "Our Gang".

On page 277, of the book, Addie speaks of her sister taking her boys to see "Our Gang" shows at the  movies. I remember my parents talking about the Our Gang series of shows.  I remember seeing bits and pieces of the old reruns.  I decided it was high time I watched an entire episode.  I went on Amazon streaming and found one "Our Gang Follies" from 1938.
There was tap dancing, singing, and music.  The kids were the stars of the show. So what did I find interesting?  Hmmm?  I guess the hair styles. Our Gang (also known as The Little Rascals or Hal Roach's Rascals) is a series of American comedyshort films about a group of poor neighborhood children and their adventures. Created by comedy producer Hal Roach, the series was produced between 1922 and 1944.  Wikipedia In addition, Our Gang notably put boys, girls, whites and blacks together as equals, something that broke new ground, according to film historian Leonard Maltin. Restaurant Review...Primal Food and Spirits plus a Wine Dinner Adventure

I have heard good things about this restaurant for some time.  When Melissa if I had been there I said "not yet", so we decided to meet there one night after work.
Primal Food and Spirits "At Primal we take gluten sensitivities seriously, and representing the needs of the gluten-free community is very important to us. Simply put, it is part of our identity, and it is exactly what makes us different from everyone else. Our kitchen is 100% gluten-free,
meaning there is no possibility of cross-contamination." (quote from their site)  I loved the variety of glasses.  I remember Melissa had a Moscato and I believe I had the Chardonnay.
The restaurant has a rustic warm feel.  Very nice.

Primal Fall Harvest Wine Dinner The event was held in a room near the back of the restaurant. Nicely decorated. The people slowly arrived...
The Menu Several of the items were new to me. Such as Chestnut Soup and  Cippolini onions.  The wines were not the typical ones that I am accustom to …

Lake Keuka Picnic with the Road Scholars

When you travel with the Road Scholars you are in for a treat.  Great food, wonderful people and adventure await you.  Be prepared to learn a great deal about your surroundings.  On one of our days of exploration, we visited Lake Keuka.  So pretty.  It was a beautiful day in Sept.  The lake itself was a lovely blue.  I remember a lady  swimming and a man  fishing.  I went up and touched the water.  Yes, it was cold but not freezing.  If I would have had my bathing suit on I would have jumped in...
""Keuka Lake (/ˈkjuːkə/kew-kə) is one of the major Finger Lakes in the U.S. state of New York.  It is unusual because it is Y-shaped Wikipedia "This body of water possesses large and healthy populations of lake trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, landlocked salmon, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and yellow perch. The productive fishery is supported by huge numbers of baitfish, most notably alewives (sawbellies),  and is a very popular lake with area fishermen." Wikipedia I don…

the 2015 NC State Fair in Raleigh NC. The Cakes....

One of the highlights of the NC state Fair is the cake exhibit.  People come from all over to line up to view the beautifully and creatively decorated cakes. I joined the line and of guests and waited expectantly.
Below are photos of some of the 2015 cake contenders along with quotes and stats found online.

My favorite Aspen memory is saving an upside-down cake that had exploded from the high altitude. Emeril Lagasse If I can tell my story, and help anybody else in the interim, then that's icing on the cake.
