Monday Morning Motivation....Be of Good Courage.

Image
It is hard to understand the pain of any situation unless you experience it yourself.  Sometimes I don't understand  the depth of my own pain.  It seems whenever I listen to a sermon that has to do with severe life circumstances  divorce is always mentioned.  The sermon I listened to this week included a quote that grouped cancer and  divorce in the same sentence. How are we supposed to survive these awful things you ask?
"Where others fail you God never will.  He is the one rock you can build your life on" Pastor at The Summit Church
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart
Psalm 27:

It's Monday.  No matter your life situation, be it good or bad, get out of bed, spend time with God, then hold your head up high and face the day.  Remember God walks beside you. God Bless & Happy Monday KathieyV:-)

Restaurant Adventures....The Pit, Authentic Barbecue.

Image
It's the weekend.  A good time to seek out new advnetures in downtown Durham.  This time Cindy and I decided to check out The Pit.
I like this quote I found on their web page.Gone to a ‘barbicue.’ Back in three days.
~ diary entry by George Washington~(Cindy and I should have stayed longer according to George.  We only stayed a few hours. I wonder if that is a good excuse to miss work?  I may try that:-) Our adventures and my photos start here with some quotes from their website in red... "Our dedicated pitmasters then cook the pigs  around the clock to bring you  the best barbecue you’ll find in these parts." "You’ll get a fine dose of Southern hospitality when you walk through the  doors of our beautifully restored warehouse-now-restaurant." We arrived a bit early and were greeted by a friendly staff.  They said it would be fine if we went to the bar.  They did not have to tell us twice...off we went.  My choice of beverage...Hard Apple Cider  Yummy!  Cindy's…

"Daydream Travel Adventures"...Haiku Stairs, Oahu Hawaii

Image
I saw this photo on Twitter, the Haiku Stairs in Oahu Hawaii. Wow, it would be a perfect thing for me to do.  I would love the stair hike and the view.  Exercise and photos who could ask for more?  So I began to plan my "Daydream Travel Adventure"... As I began my research I was sad to find that these amazing stairs are closed.  There was a major storm, according to the Huff Post, that destroyed what was left of the stairs.  They also said that the hike was an illegal one that could get you in trouble with the law.

For now, because this is my Daydream Travel Adventure lets pretend it is open to the public.  Let's go...
According to Wikipedia,  there are 3,922 steps along the Ko'olau Mountain Range.
Where would we stay on our adventure...? I have decided to stay at the Kahala Resort and Spa and since money is no object I will be staying in one of their signature suites...
"Private and exclusive, the Kahala Kai Suite is conveniently situated in the  Dolphin Lagoon …

Happy National Dog Day. I am spending my day with Roxy and Brodie:-)

Image
It's National Dog Day. A day to honor our puppies. I am so happy to have Brodie in my life.
He has never left my side. He is the one male I can count on in my life:-)
To celebrate this special day, I decided to go to Amazon and get a few things. I will also share a few quotes I found online....
Brodie has a nice sized niche in the corner of the kitchen.  I keep his bedding there and a few doggie items in a basket.  I know he would like to make it a bit more personal so I decided to order some wall art... $25.00 so cute.  Reminds me of Brodie and Roxy:-)
I ordered a couple of toys also.

21c Museum Hotel in Durham NC. Loved the Fuchsia Penguins:-)

Image
Several weeks ago I had the pleasure of visiting the Museum Hotel in downtown Durham NC.  I remember when it was the old Suntrust Building.  Built 1935-1937 and called the Hill Building it was fashioned after the Empire State Building.  It just recently became the Museum Hotel.  Cindy and I decided to check it out. Here is a quote from their website.... "Located in the heart of downtown Durham and occupying the historic Hill Building, 21c Museum Hotel Durham is a 125-room boutique hotel, contemporary art museum, cultural civic center, and home to Counting House restaurant. Stay with us and the iconic Fuchsia Penguin." "Other quirks make the hotel unique, such as rubber duckies in every bathtub — “They’re just a crowd pleaser,” and large pink ceramic penguins, art that the guests can interact with.Stites explained that the penguins can visit guests for dinner or even in their rooms. They originally began as an art piece at Louisville’s 21c, but when the exhibit rotated, the…

Travel Fashion....The Finger Lakes NY. The Rain Coat.

Image
I am thinking ahead to my upcoming trip to the Finger Lakes in New York.  So excited.  What should I wear in the  fall in NY?  I don't have any idea.  First I researched the weather.  It seems to vary.  Could be warm but can be quite  chilly.  So I started asking around.  I talked with a man this week that said the Finger Lakes were his old stomping ground.  He said be sure and take a raincoat, that this area was known for its rain.  Ok, that is a good place to start.   I consulted amazon.  I added a few rain quotes too:-)
"The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain." Dolly Parton

$69.95
"I'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain;  What a wonderful feeling, I'm happy again." Arthur Freed
$63.99 cute but no hood.

"Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.  Let the rain sing you a lullaby." Langston Hughes
$197.50.  This is my favorite one:-)

Shopping with Kathiey:-)....Abalone Jewelry. Beautiful!

Image
A few weeks ago I was walking on the beach collecting shells.   Collecting Shells on the Beach, Kathiey's World The varieties of shells on the beach seemed endless and beautiful.

I was at the mall browsing through a jewelry store the other day and came across a radiant blue stone, at least I thought it was a stone.  I asked the sales lady and she said it was called Abalone.  It was made from an abalone  shell.  I fell in love with it.
First off what is Abalone?
"Abalone- A large mollusk of the genus Haliotis, having a bowl like shell bearing a row of respiratory holes, the flesh  of which is used for food and the shell for ornament and as a source of mother of pearl...(dictionary.com)
So off I went to Amazon to see what I could find...Quotes for Wikipedia will be in italics.
"The shells of abalones have a low open spiral structure and are characterized by several open respiratory pores  in a row near the shell's outer edge. "***
