"B" is for Bynum NC

My friend, Cindy, invited me to go see a co-worker of hers who is part of a band called"Too Much Fun". She said they were playing atBynum Front Porch music series on Friday night.
We had never heard of Bynum but decided to go on an adventure.  The best overview I could find on Bynum was on the Front Porch web site.  Here are a few of their quotes..

They say "once you get that Bynum mud between your toes,  you'll always come back"
And that is exactly what has kept the town going since the 1800's.
Located off of Highway 15-501, Bynum was originally a cotton mill village set along the banks of the Haw River with the first mill built around 1872. As the mill grew, the town grew and became a vibrant community where neighbors knew each other and gathered together to celebrate and commiserate. In 1936, the Bynum General Store opened and was one of five stores in town. There was also a movie theater and a school. The mill closed in the 1970’s and Bynum’s community li…

Recipe Review…."Pick a Picnic" from Taste of Home Magazine

I love Taste of Home Magazine, it contains all sorts of recipes and ideas.   I remember having looked through the June/July issue and seeing a very nice picnic spread.

It had been a really busy day and I had no time to cook so I decided to put together an indoor picnic tray.  I went to Harris Teeter to try to mimic the Taste of Home version of the picnic goodies.  Here is what I came up with…
Fruited Chicken Salad…Yum
Cherry Tomatoes
Pita Bread and Hummus
Poppy Seed Dressing….Next time I would go with Ranch Dressing.

It was extremely good and, to make it even better, extremely easy.  I made myself a plate, grabbed a glass of wine and settled in to watch a show my daughter Erica has me hooked on…"House of Cards" on Netflicks.   Warning about House of Cards….R rated.  The political leaders on this show are down right evil.
So if you don't have the time to cook just put together a picnic tray.  I nibbled on my for 3 days.
Try a new recipe!

This made me smile:-)

Monday Morning Motivation, Words of Wisdom

We all have scars of some type or another.  We all have a story.  For me the healing, and it is a process, comes from my faith and my friends.  Another good but difficult week.  Today for my motivation I turned to a book by Sarah Young…"Dear Jesus"
Here are some quotes and scripture from her book…
"Dear Jesus I'm grateful for your perfect understanding, since I sometimes feel misunderstood or simply overlooked.  Help me experience more fully Your compassionate unfailing love"
"Cease striving and know that I am God"
"Remember that the world you inhabit is fallen and you are part of that brokenness"
"Come to me all your who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest" Matthew 11:28 Happy Monday Everyone! Enjoy Your World Kathiey:-) If you are going through any type of difficulty please turn to you faith and your friends.   Remember you are not alone.

PhotoShop CC….Playing with Filters

There is a gigantic learning curve in using PhotoShop.  I would love to take a class but who has the time?  It took me forever, but I finally was able, to use the filter option in the program.  I worked on it for hours and just could not get it to open. By chance and continued playing I found all I had to do was go to the top of the screen and hit Photoshop.  Go to preferences, click on plugins and check the box option that says "Show all Filter Gallery Groups and Names". That was all I had to do to gain access to the filters.  In all the sites and video tutorials that I watched and read never once did anyone say that if you are not able to access the filters go back to this basic step.
Just for fun I went with the plastic wrap option.  There are many many more.  I think you can work with colors and contrasts and all that fun stuff too but I was just playing.
Get out and take some pictures. Enjoy Your World! Kathiey:-) Follow my blog with Widgets

Monday Morning Motivation…"Fearless"

I am reading a book by Max Lucado, "Fearless".
In his book Max reminds us that God tells us not to fear.  How can we not fear!?   In John 16:33 we are told "In the world you "will" have tribulation"?  How can we not fear in the face of illness, death, and uncertainty?  How can we not fear when confronted with pain, confusion, hurt, and even despair?  How can we not fear when slapped in the face with unwanted circumstances beyond our control such as abandonment and divorce?
Max tells us in chapter 1 that there are over 125 times in the Gospels that we are instructed not to fear.
He also said the one command that Jesus gave more then any other was for us not to be afraid.
"Take courage, I am here" Matt. 14:27 "Don't let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God, and trust also in me…." John 14:1 When my "X" decided  I was not worth his trouble anymore and he had better things in store for himself.  I was blindsided, hurt, con…

Recipe Review….Grilled Maple Pork Chops from Taste of Home Magazine

I have been learning how to grill.  My soon to be Ex always did the grilling but now it is up to me.  I found out several weeks ago, with Erica, the real challenge was to get the gas grill turned on.  The first time I tried the flames leaped into the air.  This time the flames still leaped into the air but it was a much smaller flame, the learning curve:-)

I decided to try a Pork Chop recipe I found in Taste of Home Magazine.  "Grilled Maple Pork Chops"
I studied the recipe…
