I have. Have you ever fallen down, either physically or figuratively, and felt you did not have the strength to keep on trying? I have. Have you ever felt lost/confused and just did not have the motivation even to try to get out of the hole you have dug for yourself or the energy to attempt to get out of the pit in which life has placed you? I have. Luckily, COVID did not shut them down. I can't wait to return. Here is an old post from some time ago...enjoy!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been to the <a href="https://www.cottonhousenc.co">Cotton House</a> in Cary twice. Once on a food truck night with Erica and Josh and another time with a friend. Their primary focus is beer, but luckily for me, they have wine, too; happy day. The venue is a historic home built in 1900.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There is plenty of seating, both inside and out.</div>

<b><u>Food Trucks and Mayton Inn</u></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The first time I visited the Cotton House was on an evening they had a food truck. The truck for the evening was <a href="https://www.facebook.com/TheHumblePig/">The Humble Pig</a>. I ordered a BBQ plate, and it was delicious. They also partner with the Mayton Inn, which is right beside them. You can place an order with the Inn, and they will bring the order to you at the Cotton House. </div>

A couple of weeks ago, I visited one that I really enjoyed, <a href="https://www.tijuanaflats.com/locations/parkside-cary">Tijuana Flats</a> in Cary, NC. This is a Mexican Restaurant chain that is known for its hot sauce bar and colorful murals. </p><p>Rocky had told me that he had been before and he really liked it so one evening we decided to go to the one near my home.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzNaE0wjGGAbYUyJUsz8HOCp69r-OhotJjCbreubYbR70NRmLSRW7MvGb8Pb3IS4QXMEs6F5fdcb3g7sMPN9rzER9oSHu7tK9RqyFaWXXSi7xzdFQapHXS4Xq21Pa9CSNqqUmdlcDxR7igrglCV6AN2as-z01Vi87-Mm0AImevEOyEWPMjdONn5C4Dmys/s1080/33BB5E17-802B-4C80-B7D6-D64412101D85.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzNaE0wjGGAbYUyJUsz8HOCp69r-OhotJjCbreubYbR70NRmLSRW7MvGb8Pb3IS4QXMEs6F5fdcb3g7sMPN9rzER9oSHu7tK9RqyFaWXXSi7xzdFQapHXS4Xq21Pa9CSNqqUmdlcDxR7igrglCV6AN2as-z01Vi87-Mm0AImevEOyEWPMjdONn5C4Dmys/w640-h640/33BB5E17-802B-4C80-B7D6-D64412101D85.png" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="caret-color: rgb(21, 21, 21); color: #151515; font-family: "Special Elite", cursive; font-size: 20px; text-align: start;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirPt788Z8_dqKJvQHZZvr9Hfoot63Ii5JFVQ-vl8DtHxZKAo1voZWf3c0dV7cVqAUiT19ObzEQDpDhiN1BZXiDAsk7gFFpiY4ANnhc8eDqAcm_pF-tf2N4FudY__QyUr7LpoKOLCPSw79SAU7dtjW1znBPg1fmB2YTEzCiN7Gs4BiejtLUzAXQCLRp44c/s4032/69FEB722-CF4F-4DB8-9313-6A18FDE9DB62.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirPt788Z8_dqKJvQHZZvr9Hfoot63Ii5JFVQ-vl8DtHxZKAo1voZWf3c0dV7cVqAUiT19ObzEQDpDhiN1BZXiDAsk7gFFpiY4ANnhc8eDqAcm_pF-tf2N4FudY__QyUr7LpoKOLCPSw79SAU7dtjW1znBPg1fmB2YTEzCiN7Gs4BiejtLUzAXQCLRp44c/w480-h640/69FEB722-CF4F-4DB8-9313-6A18FDE9DB62.heic" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirMlBG8UpWWDsD-eqV1HUJdhqA-RGgWp4CesStsFsKyMRHE9K9ZrLX4TzkukPa2XcVUl0UVVee1A5nDusuJ7QNXEW3Fl7xvtXlJ4_qdSKgP7BAaDg_x5b-5hbqCkJaAApRZeIEhyphenhyphenH6oTL1sreI8Ns04CJijAkn_PwyryQHVgqkk0gQZdCNv3CgyXgUDEQ/s4032/00F2CD1B-9145-4815-9062-DB67CB44BD24.heic" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirMlBG8UpWWDsD-eqV1HUJdhqA-RGgWp4CesStsFsKyMRHE9K9ZrLX4TzkukPa2XcVUl0UVVee1A5nDusuJ7QNXEW3Fl7xvtXlJ4_qdSKgP7BAaDg_x5b-5hbqCkJaAApRZeIEhyphenhyphenH6oTL1sreI8Ns04CJijAkn_PwyryQHVgqkk0gQZdCNv3CgyXgUDEQ/w480-h640/00F2CD1B-9145-4815-9062-DB67CB44BD24.heic" width="480" /></a></div></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="caret-color: rgb(21, 21, 21); color: #151515; font-family: "Special Elite", cursive; font-size: 20px; text-align: start;"><i><br /></i></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="caret-color: rgb(21, 21, 21); color: #151515; font-family: "Special Elite", cursive; font-size: 20px; text-align: start;"><i>Here is a quote from their website...</i></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="caret-color: rgb(21, 21, 21); color: #151515; font-family: "Special Elite", cursive; font-size: 20px; text-align: start;">Like most college kids, our founder, Brian Wheeler, liked going to bars and restaurants. I have had my share of nightmares and also my share of fun and memorable dreams. I can remember themes in my dreams that recur, such as being in a play with hundreds of people in attendance and I forgot my lines and can't find my script. I sometimes dream that I need to shower, and I search desperately for shampoo and soap, and someone always takes it before I can get to it. </p><p><br /></p><p>My mom had a recurring dream that she would speak of often. This dream was based on a house she would pass on her travels. I remember my mom showing me this house. It was a white home on a hill. Mom said, in the dream, she would enter the front door of this house. As she entered the house, she was welcomed with joy and hugs from many people. About midway through her dream, she realizes that everyone in the house had died some time ago. Mom said this dream gave her comfort that she would be greeted on the other side of this life.</p><p><br /></p><p>I had two dreams as a child that have stuck with me. One was of a faith focus. When I walk down the stairs in the middle of the night, I open the front door, and in the yard is the full living nativity scene. I was invited into the manger, and it was amazing.</p><p><br /></p><p> One dream that I had was so real that I wondered if it happened when I woke up. It was a dream about my brother Bruce, who had Down's Syndrome. I was probably in second grade when I had this dream. </p><p>Growing up, I was aware of the stares and comments directed toward Bruce. These negative comments would upset me. In the dream, I remember that Bruce came up to me, and he was changed. He looked the same, but he was different. </p><p><br /></p><p>Bruce gave me a sweet, confident hug in this dream, and I remember he smelled like baby powder. Then Bruce spoke. He no longer talked in his difficult-to-understand way. Now, his speech was clear and articulate.</p><p>Bruce said God had taken him to heaven, and he was now "perfect." I cried with such joy as I held him.</p><p><br /></p><p>This dream warms my heart to this day. I am sure that Bruce is "perfect" now that he is in heaven, and I will look forward to seeing him someday.</p><p style="text-align: center;">KathieyV</p><div><br /></div>Kathiey's Worldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18134861771288397627noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1614091221128718092.post-70077340028506275752024-02-12T08:30:00.001-05:002024-02-12T08:30:00.250-05:00Quote of the Month-A Quote by the Dalai Lama on Inner Peace<p></p><div style="text-align: center;">A Quote by the Dalai Lama... </div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>"Do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace."</i></div><div style="text-align: center;">Dalai Lama</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxu_JMdMBh88aDDuxhNGsMlVhn8Jd3i6VuO0fOZ8_1zRZmDCfg4Mc5IHCq7JkzXRYHd5RcFIZk4OOADNgSuXVhioWoazkYVcOs7mBDVpe5MyQa9ZpYGTc0u7DQiMzyffaSkM2Hs4fOKduRsIFPs6zYxeGUS5oIM0KMs7iH_0GL3yLMo8pNG1vd5713Mrc/s2000/E4E6FDCD-0D1D-4550-82F4-4448128E8177.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="2000" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxu_JMdMBh88aDDuxhNGsMlVhn8Jd3i6VuO0fOZ8_1zRZmDCfg4Mc5IHCq7JkzXRYHd5RcFIZk4OOADNgSuXVhioWoazkYVcOs7mBDVpe5MyQa9ZpYGTc0u7DQiMzyffaSkM2Hs4fOKduRsIFPs6zYxeGUS5oIM0KMs7iH_0GL3yLMo8pNG1vd5713Mrc/w640-h512/E4E6FDCD-0D1D-4550-82F4-4448128E8177.png" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Another way to phrase this is to not let someone else steal our peace of mind.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">We have all been in situations where words have been spoken or actions have been taken against us. I also remember that kids chewing gum, making teachers and parents mad. I would pop my gum, and my brothers would get mad at me. I would chew gum in class, and my teachers would get mad at me. I would find gum under my desk at school or on my shoe after a walk outside, and that would make me angry. That being said, aside from all the anger, chewing gum can also be beneficial for you. It can be a stress reliever. Who would have thought?</p>In one Japanese study, test subjects who were asked to chew mint-flavored gum twice a day for 14 days reported lower levels of anxiety and mental fatigue compared with a control group that got just a mint. In other studies, it was found chewing gum could boost memory and reduce stress reduce anxiety, and increases alertness. One<a href="https://www.confectionerynews.com/Article/2014/03/31/Chewing-gum-reduces-stress-study"> study </a>found that chewing gum for 10 minutes reduces stress. <div><br /></div><div>I know there is a downside to chewing gum, such as tooth decay. J. Watson. As I am reading, I am always looking for quotes that touch an emotional chord in me. The storyline of the book is centered around a woman who has lost her memory. She regains bits and pieces of her memory throughout her day, and then she falls asleep at night and loses it all again. The quote I underlined and that touched me the most was this "A ripple across the surface of the lake of memory." </div><div><br /></div><div>There have been significant changes in my life over the years, and it has not been easy. I do my best to give it to God. I don't allow myself to think much about my past because I tend to gravitate to the pain. After reading this quote, I decided to let myself remember. I allowed myself to remember the good.<br />
<br />
I remember Dave. As my Dad was dying, he said, "Dave, take care of your sister," and he did. We became close, more so then we had in our childhood years. We talked on the phone almost daily. We shared stories, laughed, and cried together. We spoke on the phone nearly every day. We went on outings. He took me up in his plane, which was a bit unnerving but fun. I remember he had to tie the plane door shut because it kept opening, but the fear was worth it to be with my brother that I loved. We went out for dinner; we went out for coffee. Mom and Dad. I do miss them both. I remember going to Hawaii with Dad. I remember walking through the Va. woods with him also, that is where he seemed to be the most at peace. I remember the last movie I watched with Dad..."The Birds." We held hands, knowing this would be the last film we would see together because he was dying of pancreatic cancer. </div><div><br />
Mom and I used to have good times. We would read books at the same time and share our thoughts. We played card games, played Rummy Cube, and watched movies. Mom had a great sense of humor and would come out with the craziest things and make me laugh. She was an amazing woman. I wish she had been more appreciated in life. She did not have it easy, but she was such an inspiration to those who knew her.<br />

Originally aired from October 3, 2008, to December 9, 2014, Sons of Anarchy follows the lives of a close-knit outlaw motorcycle club operating in Charming, a fictional town in California's Central Valley. Charlie Hunnam stars as Jackson "Jax" Teller, who is initially the vice president and subsequently the president of the club. After discovering a manifesto written by his late father, John, who previously led the club, he begins to question himself, his relationships, and the club. Themes throughout the show include love, brotherhood, loyalty, betrayal, and redemption. It explored vigilantism, government corruption, and racism. I could hardly get through half of it without being so irritated by the repeated cycle of poor decision-making and childlike inner thoughts of the protagonist that I had to put it down. I laughed out loud at the cheesy and overplayed “villain explains her rationale and intent” ending with dialogue that made me cringe. I think the general plot line could be interesting, but it wasn’t my cup of tea. I think the most surprising thing about this book is the 4.3 stars it currently has.</i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div>As far as my own review, I would give it a 3.75 on my reading scale. I agree with the 5-star review in that it was somewhat addictive because I was drawn into the plot line. I, too, agree with the 1-star review in that it was somewhat predictable, and I, too, did not like the protagonist's thoughts at times because they seemed naive. Overall, it was worth the read, and I did enjoy it. <br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">**********</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Music</span></div><div style="text-align: center;">I recently put together a playlist of songs about roses on Spotify. Soup is one of my favorite comfort foods. I decided to try a creamy chicken noodle soup I found on Pinterest. The original recipe came from Southern Living. <br /><br />I gathered my ingredients to make this classic soup. When I am making a chicken-based recipe, I typically get a rotisserie chicken which makes life so much easier when making this hearty soup. I will need ingredients such as shredded chicken, fresh garlic, dried noodles, celery stalks, and the list goes on.<br /><br />Here is the printable recipe...<!--START The Recipe Box--><script class="ccm-schema" type="application/ld+json">{"image":"https://i.imgur.com/qqAvkBi.jpg","name":"Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup","description":"A cold weather comfort food.","yield":"4","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Modified from Southern Living"},"recipeIngredient":["¼ cup unsalted butter","1 medium-size yellow onion, finely chopped (about 1 cup)","3 medium carrots, sliced into ½-inch rounds (about ¾ cup)","2 medium celery stalks, chopped (about ½ cup)","1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt, divided","¼ cup all-purpose flour","4 medium garlic cloves, finely chopped (4 tsp.)","¼ teaspoon smoked paprika","6 cups chicken stock","8 ounces old-fashioned wide egg noodles (such as Mrs. Miller's)","12 ounces cooked chicken, torn into bite-size pieces (4 cups)","½ cup heavy whipping cream","1 tablespoon sherry vinegar","2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves"],"recipeInstructions":["Melt butter in a large pot over medium-high. There is so much to write about in our lives, but today, I thought we could go down memory lane and keep it light. Let's share a snow day.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: times;">Are you hoping for snow this Christmas Season? I am, but here in NC, we have been in the 70s, even in December. I can dream of snowy days to come and reflect on snowy days from my past. With that in mind, let's "Describe Our Best Snow Day Ever."</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrhl1AXg9a0T_mNQt1uDchxqgwmLH6gkaNUQAyQU6-If4EEZF2RZxjZZtDye14EurSH8hbrwOQiNawsqvsDB3kc7MDC-dOOPr_ZDCy2vA2QcaQEv4DGyWuetSnZdbdM-HRJDVwok-JFek-YbWu-IYc_6F82onu-uf78Vx79ObrSlk-HwqqQ1TbTSIEWjM/s1080/0EA1A86C-C3B0-49BE-B31C-567DC6CC969A.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrhl1AXg9a0T_mNQt1uDchxqgwmLH6gkaNUQAyQU6-If4EEZF2RZxjZZtDye14EurSH8hbrwOQiNawsqvsDB3kc7MDC-dOOPr_ZDCy2vA2QcaQEv4DGyWuetSnZdbdM-HRJDVwok-JFek-YbWu-IYc_6F82onu-uf78Vx79ObrSlk-HwqqQ1TbTSIEWjM/w640-h640/0EA1A86C-C3B0-49BE-B31C-567DC6CC969A.png" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p style="font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;"></p><p><span style="font-family: times;">As a child growing up in Pennsylvania, I remember that we loved our snow days. My parents would prepare for snow by putting up snow fences to place the snow drifts where they wanted them. I think this made them feel some control over the impending blizzards. My dad would also put snow chains on the car tires during the snowy season. As kids, we prepped our sleds and kept our snow attire handy so we would be ready at any moment to build snowmen, construct snow forts, and sled down the hill from our house to our Uncle Leslie and Aunt Charlotte's house. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: times;">I remember a snow day when my daughters were still at home in my adult life. I don't recall what year it was or how old the kids were, but I know we had a blast. The snow came down hard and heavy that snow day and seemed to go on forever. In NC, they are not the best at snow removal, so we knew school would be closed for some time. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: times;">Luckily we did not lose power during the storm. We spent our week sleeping in and playing in the snow. We hiked in the snow, threw snowballs, and built snowmen. When the cold became too bitter, we would head into the warm house, make hot chocolate, and play cards throughout the evening. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: times;">Best Snow Day Ever!</span></p><p><span face="Roboto, sans-serif" style="font-size: 15px; text-align: center;"> KathieyV</span> </p>Kathiey's Worldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18134861771288397627noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1614091221128718092.post-33657960112246149732024-01-22T09:00:00.001-05:002024-01-22T09:00:00.130-05:00Travel North Carolina-A Stroll In Downtown Hickory NC<p>It was a nice cold day just before Christmas. I found this thought backed up online, and according to <a href="https://www.amherst.edu/campuslife/health-safety-wellness/counseling/wellness/self-care-and-stress-reduction/de-stress">Amherst College</a> "taking care of yourself will help maintain your physical, emotional, and mental reserves to prevent and manage stress.<div>So to take care of myself this week, I decided to get a pedicure. The pool in my community just opened, and sandal weather is here, so I thought this would be a good idea on many levels.</div><div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQLyn4GiwSDoITfXMfGBk5R64C0Yv-rcyMoCS6lWOvTre2kPIXEnHcY2Z4NQZNIKq8i_XP5KlZ4AquzUGm4Vu4uRBzmzoEpvjJd8Iw1Jq_sKmBg5pL59c7CbqEUHB5Ii3wpOXoBC6RGQ8t6_U5TV_an1mxARCWSVqweHQhyY0WJAUzHmo02eu2rmtY/s2000/10B59B7C-794C-4EF3-8987-B70184E66865.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="2000" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQLyn4GiwSDoITfXMfGBk5R64C0Yv-rcyMoCS6lWOvTre2kPIXEnHcY2Z4NQZNIKq8i_XP5KlZ4AquzUGm4Vu4uRBzmzoEpvjJd8Iw1Jq_sKmBg5pL59c7CbqEUHB5Ii3wpOXoBC6RGQ8t6_U5TV_an1mxARCWSVqweHQhyY0WJAUzHmo02eu2rmtY/w640-h512/10B59B7C-794C-4EF3-8987-B70184E66865.png" width="640" /></a></div><p>Some studies say that stress relief can keep you healthy and boost your mindset and energy levels. One way to achieve a level of stress relief is through self-care. One way for us to care for ourselves is by getting a pedicure.</p><p>The environment itself in a spa should be calm and relaxing. Typically there is calming music, and the visual surroundings should be warm and peaceful.</p><p>Along with the spa setting, there are typically options for scented treatments. This enhances our experience through aromatherapy.</p><p>The pedicure experience also includes a foot and lower leg massage. This increases circulation and promotes relaxation, thus boosting our mental health.</p><p>There is nothing like a bit of pampering to boost our mood and our outlook.</p><p>Here are a few things to think about when planning your pedicure. I would read reviews on the spa. Search for a nice one in your area to make your experience a good one.</p><p>I have to admit I choose poorly. I have been to charming, peaceful locations in the past, but the place I visited this time was less than ideal. </p><div style="text-align: center;">My Experience</div></div><div>In most cases, I enjoy the ambiance of the nail spa. There is usually calming music and a peaceful, serene atmosphere. Full disclosure, that was not the case where I went. First off there was no music. The place was loud, the employees were talking and laughing in a language I did not understand, and it went on the entire time. This was uncomfortable for me. The screen on the wall was nothing but a screen showing blurry images. They need to get that fixed.</div><div>I did get a nice result on my feet, but it was not a relaxing experience. I will do my research next time.</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Take Care of Yourself-</div><div style="text-align: center;">I suggest you get a pedicure. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Be sure to check reviews before you go.</div><div style="text-align: center;">KathieyV</div>Kathiey's Worldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18134861771288397627noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1614091221128718092.post-22422645255983131982024-01-17T08:53:00.001-05:002024-01-17T08:53:00.136-05:00Fashion/Amazon Shopping-A Casual Valentine's Day-Top and Clutch Options<p> It is time to think about Valentine's Day and what I will wear to a Valentine's event. The event is at my favorite winery, where there will be a band and dancing. It is a casual affair, so dark pants, a red top, and a unique clutch would be fun. Let's head over to Amazon to see what we can find.</p><p>(I am an Amazon Affiliate. If you buy anything using my link, I get a tiny percentage of the sale at no extra cost to you. Journaling is not only a way to relieve stress and help us process things it is also a way to tell our story.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD5SSxRbJwsQ8JIt-uMc08NLpGHSnsnby1rctOcSohA9dVFgNeD8t8rftWuTPVbtjZ8RRNaucJVrZLX6wKX1y_GyJ41PPC1YUboIfHirYibo14PNulyT15fN5w6VVHJ4s3PRIIwh-IWJA/s1080/fullsizeoutput_4868.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD5SSxRbJwsQ8JIt-uMc08NLpGHSnsnby1rctOcSohA9dVFgNeD8t8rftWuTPVbtjZ8RRNaucJVrZLX6wKX1y_GyJ41PPC1YUboIfHirYibo14PNulyT15fN5w6VVHJ4s3PRIIwh-IWJA/w640-h640/fullsizeoutput_4868.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div><div>My career goal as a child was pure, idealistic, and full of hope. I recall so clearly my desire to be a Catholic Sister. I would daydream about following God and serving others through the sisterhood. The problem was that I was not Catholic. Where did this desire to be a Catholic Sister develop? Thinking back, I believe it came from several different places. My brother Bruce had Down's Syndrome. Bruce was a Student at the Benedictine School in Maryland, and that is where I first encountered the Sisters. They seemed to be so lovely and caring, and I admired that. </div><div><br /></div><div>There was a movie that made an impact on my thinking in my younger years. The movie title was The Song Of Bernadette. In this movie, a young girl saw the Virgin Mary when no one else could see her, and the young girl followed Mary's commands. The girl's faith was put to the test as she followed her truth in the face of ridicule. Powerful movie; I need to watch it again now that I am an adult and see what impact it would have on my adult self. </div><div><br /></div><div>I recall from a very young age having a strong calling to follow God. I am not sure how this calling came about. It may have been the prayers of my Grandmother or through the loving care of my mother. I don't know, but I do know there has always been a strong pull toward faith in my life. </div><div><br /></div><div>How has my reality been different from my original career goal? I did not become a Catholic Sister, although I highly regard them. I did, however, marry a man with the stated desire to be a pastor. I did spend much of my time involved in the church in music and ministry. I also became a nurse. </div><div><br /></div><div>I was able to accomplish some traits of my childhood career goal through my nursing career and my work in the church. My pastor husband abandoned me, but I try to keep my desire to serve God alive. I think that we can serve God wherever we find ourselves, and with that in mind, I believe many of my childhood goals for a career in my life were met.</div><div style="text-align: center;">KathieyV</div>Kathiey's Worldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18134861771288397627noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1614091221128718092.post-91676298038786420342024-01-10T08:01:00.001-05:002024-01-10T08:01:00.137-05:00Quote of the Week by Ava DuVernay "Create Your Own Door"<p> Today I selected a quote by Ava DuVernay. This quote is accurate on many levels. In order to succeed in this life and be happy, we can't continue to make the same mistakes or knock on the same door. We can't continue to knock on the door, so someone who damaged us and expect the situation to be different. We can't continue to knock on the door of what we know we should not be doing and expect different results. We have to choose a new positive path. This takes commitment, courage, and determination, but we can do it. </p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPT7WOhIOI9MNAeQJifdCC8qino9cBNivU63D_iZh0VkT5O2u24bLKkXF6KWfd8tohLPK0jUmpdn6SUbvTYYv4ZCrt0mgEdPO57rwwCSoKHoCfb_QkVqDtmRuCVuoyhC8bSJX1binDqCNZYe5flLB5J420NbWj1N2Pam8z46UJzKbme7gJIbb3ks61/s2000/871858F6-5A68-4486-98E5-AC0433436204.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="2000" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPT7WOhIOI9MNAeQJifdCC8qino9cBNivU63D_iZh0VkT5O2u24bLKkXF6KWfd8tohLPK0jUmpdn6SUbvTYYv4ZCrt0mgEdPO57rwwCSoKHoCfb_QkVqDtmRuCVuoyhC8bSJX1binDqCNZYe5flLB5J420NbWj1N2Pam8z46UJzKbme7gJIbb3ks61/w640-h512/871858F6-5A68-4486-98E5-AC0433436204.png" width="640" /></a></p><div style="text-align: center;">God Bless You on Your Journey!</div><div><div style="text-align: center;">KathieyV</div><p><br /></p></div>Kathiey's Worldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18134861771288397627noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1614091221128718092.post-86182604422862711962024-01-08T07:43:00.001-05:002024-01-08T07:43:36.148-05:00Journal Prompt-#3-Do Your Believe in Karma?<p style="text-align: center;"><b> Journal Prompt</b></p><p style="text-align: center;"><b>Do You Believe In Karma?</b></p><p style="text-align: center;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5cRQ-hH1dFy7p9yAQM7Rwnm6dkRT5t6F7nTjeCfPiYTvS33B1QytGDV8X7qmXgqC-tvOPcH2rUMozA3KorzVwzdsIJ-p9KsK3X1t8zroxY6xr2LdgJgxyoXyN3CE8rGSyLgY4QUh_zlmQO_6RNnhBtMyAdiPga58xAP_heiHzxuWA5qJcSePdhvMe/s2000/D51F6941-AE94-4B6A-976C-29183F0F49DB.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="2000" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5cRQ-hH1dFy7p9yAQM7Rwnm6dkRT5t6F7nTjeCfPiYTvS33B1QytGDV8X7qmXgqC-tvOPcH2rUMozA3KorzVwzdsIJ-p9KsK3X1t8zroxY6xr2LdgJgxyoXyN3CE8rGSyLgY4QUh_zlmQO_6RNnhBtMyAdiPga58xAP_heiHzxuWA5qJcSePdhvMe/w640-h512/D51F6941-AE94-4B6A-976C-29183F0F49DB.png" width="640" /></a></div><p>First off, what is karma? I found this definition of karma in an online dictionary. Karma is <i>"destiny or fate, following as effect from cause.</i>" Another meaning in the Cambridge Dictionary is <i>"a situation in which things happen to someone as a result of their previous actions, or the force that makes this happen."</i></p>Here is another quote<i>...Hindus believe in karma, meaning they will answer for their actions - if not in this life, then in the next.</i><p style="text-align: center;">Here is how I feel about karma...</p><p>As a child, I may have believed in some form of karma. I thought negative karma should be the outcome for all wrongdoers and that all "good" people should have a life with only positive karma. After living for over 60 years, I have found that unrealistic and untrue as much as I wished the opposite.</p><p><br /></p><p>I think, in some ways, people receive positive and negative outcomes from their actions. I also think that many suffer karma that was not their doing. Disease and poverty may devastate many innocent people. Unsavory people may mistreat others, with those affected undeserving of their wrath. </p><p><br /></p><p>I think there could be a positive reaction to a positive act and an adverse reaction to a harmful action. I believe we should do our best to treat others positively and hope for a positive outcome while we live on this earth.</p><p><br /></p><p>I think the only true Kama is through God. I believe he will judge us all in some manner and that only he can judge us fairly. That being said, I will leave the karma to God. </p><p><br /></p><p>Although, I do wish I could see more true karma here on earth. Seeing people doing cruel and selfish things with little to no consequence makes me angry. Seeing bad things happen to good people does not seem fair. </p><p style="text-align: center;">KathieyV</p><p>How do you feel about karma? Do you believe in it? The drive was from Cary to Ashville. The trip would take about 4 hours. We decided to try to find a stopping point for lunch about halfway. A friend suggested we stop in Hickory, NC. </p><p>I did some research on Hickory and found the cutest little restaurant with a specialty market attached. The name of the restaurant is <a href="https://www.oldehickorystation.com">Olde Hickory Station.</a> It is an old historic train station that has been restored. You will find it in the heart of downtown Hickory. The station is operated by Ole Hickory Brewery. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPzasKX06BxuBf0d1LfsWXpr2pbkq5KYuYBrKYJ3ICfgqQtAAQ8Kf-du-ZRctQbYowOm5r939nQ1cRmUTOypI7vcBjH1Oqc4MH_mdGMSc4QZRGY0MehK_ADZORF0jN1p3KBem06XRA3nkLm8Ry9bCAJ-rj7KbbNvTdKYD1E-NylmG-GXfyWJDzCmVlRjw/s2000/216F2A84-C3F0-4079-A1D9-00554A143E97.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2000" data-original-width="1333" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPzasKX06BxuBf0d1LfsWXpr2pbkq5KYuYBrKYJ3ICfgqQtAAQ8Kf-du-ZRctQbYowOm5r939nQ1cRmUTOypI7vcBjH1Oqc4MH_mdGMSc4QZRGY0MehK_ADZORF0jN1p3KBem06XRA3nkLm8Ry9bCAJ-rj7KbbNvTdKYD1E-NylmG-GXfyWJDzCmVlRjw/w426-h640/216F2A84-C3F0-4079-A1D9-00554A143E97.png" width="426" /></a></div><p>Here are a few facts you will find on their website</p><p>*It is open 7 days a week. I believe everyone has a different version of what they think is good wine. One flavor in wine that I do not like is a strong citrus flavor. I found a site called <a href="https://www.cardsofwine.com/wines_flavors_white.asp">Cards of Wine</a>. Cards of Wine break down the flavors, which may aid me in avoiding the higher citrus wines. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6i4KSZxXTkirmRvuoV1zxYmZtM6YnRVU4e7bGDSyBV18wjX0lD6Qsm02pptJywf_MUWDSM6XOzzE_NvcXxEk1zvG5dSNtr500eF6l0GuqC-l5I5b5UMGPpc9rcAd-KyTRkYi8EETTUNdh9Gqx0vyG7GzSMu8uAeSk1b0TqgFf5c6EhVBGrBklUKT6/s2000/8B5EC6E4-3C31-4DA4-815B-9B3C9AA8CDF4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="2000" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6i4KSZxXTkirmRvuoV1zxYmZtM6YnRVU4e7bGDSyBV18wjX0lD6Qsm02pptJywf_MUWDSM6XOzzE_NvcXxEk1zvG5dSNtr500eF6l0GuqC-l5I5b5UMGPpc9rcAd-KyTRkYi8EETTUNdh9Gqx0vyG7GzSMu8uAeSk1b0TqgFf5c6EhVBGrBklUKT6/w640-h512/8B5EC6E4-3C31-4DA4-815B-9B3C9AA8CDF4.png" width="640" /></a></div>There have been many occasions where I bought a wine that sounded very good. In some of these cases, I later sampled the wine and found it too strong in citrus for me, and I could not even drink it, so, sadly, down the drain it went.<div><br /></div><div>Here is a quote on <a href="https://vinepair.com/wine-101/acidity-wine-mean/">Wine Acidity </a>...</div><i>Acidity is a wine’s “pucker” or tartness; it’s what makes a wine refreshing and your tongue salivate and want another sip.</i><div><i><br /></i><div>I can take a little citrus flavor, but I simply can't drink it when it gets too intense.</div><div><br /></div><div>On the wine cards, they say lemon, lime, and grapefruit contain a lot of acids. Here are the wines they list in that category Chablis, Dry Riesling, Vermentino, Verdejo, Albarino, and Txakoli.</div><div><br /></div><div>They talk of another category that is sweet citrus. It makes sense to me that I would prefer this over the high acidic citrus wines.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD-qYP27i_pONSg_qpTQ1fecVzt2MyHVKDz5Y0tyg4jIhvYHxhgD81iLCeZ5cPf4tVVE7sboEcA22r_885NIBQINg4vdhI91p28tIdsf5nELA1ABuNe3-0BC6H2dzycgEwffYGKGBOZf_8TPAh0QyNuVYajEjTPCWcf4uzmw4RZnq_7hOxtoCzKjf0/s2000/5B597D84-CF8A-48DD-848F-8B48D6A69A74.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="2000" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD-qYP27i_pONSg_qpTQ1fecVzt2MyHVKDz5Y0tyg4jIhvYHxhgD81iLCeZ5cPf4tVVE7sboEcA22r_885NIBQINg4vdhI91p28tIdsf5nELA1ABuNe3-0BC6H2dzycgEwffYGKGBOZf_8TPAh0QyNuVYajEjTPCWcf4uzmw4RZnq_7hOxtoCzKjf0/w640-h512/5B597D84-CF8A-48DD-848F-8B48D6A69A74.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><div>Oranges, Mandarins, and Apricots fall into this category. Rieslings or Chardonnays from warmer climates and Gewurztraminers are suggested to find these flavors. If you want a wine that leans toward apricot, they suggest Tokaji. (I was just reading the Tokaji is very sweet so I probably would not like it)</div><div><br /></div><div>I mostly love Chardonnay. Every once in a while, I will have a Chardonnay that this way too acidic for me. I did a blog post on <a href="https://kathieysworld.blogspot.com/2022/04/wine-wednesday-lets-talk-about.html">Let's Talk About Chardonnay</a> which talks about which ones lean more toward a more robust citrus flavor. It seems I should get Chardonnay that grows in warmer climates.</div><div><br /></div><div>I hope this helps in your quest to buy specific wines. If you love or want to avoid the more acidic citrus flavors, you will have some basis of information.</div><div><div><i><br /></i></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Happy Wine, Sipping, Everyone!</i></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>KathieyV</i></div><i><br /></i><br /></div></div></div>Kathiey's Worldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18134861771288397627noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1614091221128718092.post-64147477222747090762024-01-01T09:00:00.002-05:002024-01-01T09:00:00.126-05:00Monthly Motivation....Disconnection and God's PromiseThe last 2 sermons I have listened to have touched on the fact that many of us feel disconnected. Just what is the definition of disconnected?<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Disconnected: Having a connection broken. To feel separated, separated, divorced, cut off. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am sure there are many life events that leave us feeling cut off or disconnected. For me, it was the end of a very long marriage. For you, it may be something else. Whatever the circumstance it is a comfort to know that we are not disconnected from God. Please remember His promise</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Thank you, God! </div>
