Rock of Ages Winery in Hurdle Mills NC

Did you know that September is North Carolina Wine Month?  That's all the motivation I needed to take a drive to a winery I had heard about but never visited.  I set off for a little over an hour drive to Hurdle Mills NC to visit Rock of Ages Winery On my route, I saw beautiful old barns, rolling hills, and farmland.  I drove through one of my favorite towns Hillsborough NC.  There were a few slow-moving vehicles on the journey.  Instead of trying to pass them I took the time to relax and enjoy the sights of smells of the countryside. Before I knew it, I had arrived.  There it was the Rock of Ages Winery.  What a lovely building.
The building itself is beautiful. The stone and wood create a welcoming setting.  I met the owners, Kevin and Kim Moore.  They took the time to meet and greet everyone.   They know their wine and seem to enjoy sharing that knowledge.  Kevin has a degree from Surry Community College in Enology and Viticulture.   Rock of Ages Winery opened 2005 with Kevin …

Morning Motivation "Your Eyes Told Me"

This is an update of an old post written in 2011. Several weeks ago I watched "The Sixth Sense."  I love that movie.  The twists and turns the surprise ending.  And that adorable little boy, what an amazing actor, and who doesn't like Bruce Willis:-)The little boy did not share much regarding his thoughts and feelings.  He kept them hidden.  He kept his pain hidden.   I loved the son's relationship with his mom. He loved her deeply and could read her emotions.  At one point he asked her why she was so sad, her reply "What makes you think I'm sad," Cole's reply "Your eyes told me."  I think many of us would love for someone to care so deeply about us that they could see through our facade and see our pain.  That they could look in our eyes and read what is behind our smile, our mask.  Well, there is someone, God.  He sees our pain, our loneliness,  our confusion,  our guilt,  our fear, and our utter devastation.  And guess what?  He loves us!…

Afternoon Tea at The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary NC

Stephanie, Erica, and I wanted to go on an adventure.  We like tea so we decided to try Afternoon Tea at the Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary.
Here are a couple of quotes from their website...
"Afternoon Tea is served in the lobby lounge, situated amongst the art adorned walls, enhanced by the hotel's Dale Chihuly glass sculpture. Afternoon Tea is a welcoming and elegant way to spend an afternoon socializing." "Afternoon Tea is served Wednesday - Sunday from 2:30-4:00pm."  "Live harpist accompaniment adds to the soothing environment."
Click for a PDF of the menu along with the types of tea they serve.  I chose the Earl Grey Tea.  It was lovely.
I think tea sandwiches are so much fun.  I don't know if I could pick a favorite they were all delicious.
After the tea sandwiches, we were served a variety of scones. Yummy.  And yes, if you were wondering, we ate all of those too:-) Now it was time for the final course, "Sweets". I absolutely loved …

Interesting Places to Visit in NC...The Pisgah Covered Bridge in Ashboro NC.

My mom used to talk about the beautiful covered bridges in Pennsylvania.  I remember visiting at least one as a small child.  I was excited to find out that there is a covered bridge in Ashboro.  It is named the Pisgah Covered Bridge. I am going to put it on my bucket list of places to visit.

The bridge was built in 1911 at a cost of $40.00.  It is a one lane bridge.  It was washed away by a flood in 2003 but quickly rebuilt.  I did read that there is now graffiti on the bridge but that it is still worth the visit.
The zoo in Ashboro is the main reason I have visited the area.  The bridge is about 20 minutes from the zoo.  If you have time you could visit both the zoo and the bridge.

You can go to the Trip Advisor site to read reviews from folks who have been there.  The address is, 6925 Pisgah Covered Bridge Rd Asheboro, NC 27205 Please check out the website for more details so that you can plan your visit. Take Care and Happy Adventures. KathieyV:-)

Interesting Places to Visit in North Carolina The Country Doctor Museum

I am usually on the search to find interesting places in NC that I would like to visit.  The Country Doctor Museum is one of them.  Being an RN, it is interesting to learn about prior treatment techniques and options.  The Country Doctor Museum is a place that is on my must see places in NC.   Below you will find some photos and quotes from their website. "The Country Doctor Museum invites people of all ages to visit and learn about the history of rural health care in the United States. Docents lead tours through three buildings of exhibits and are available to answer questions. Exhibits contain artifacts relevant to the practice of medicine between the late 18th century and the first half of the 20th century." "..the Museum's collection grew to over 5,000 medical artifacts and many volumes of historic texts gathered from across the nation."
