Road Scholar Trip.....Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira NY

So off I went on one of the many excursions with the Road Scholars on my amazing vacation with them.   We boarded our luxury ride, I guess I will call it a cross between a bus and a van, and headed to Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira NY. The main reason for this visit was to see the resting place of Mark Twain.  So we stayed in one small area.  I did wander a bit while always keeping the other scholars in sight:-) Here are some of my many photos...along with some quotes from Mark Twain. "Woodlawn Cemetery is the name of a cemetery in Elmira, New York.  The most famous person buried in it is Mark Twain." Wikipedia  "I think we never become really and genuinely our entire and honest selves until we are dead, and not then until we have been dead years and years.  People ought to start dead,  and they would be honest so much earlier. Mark Twain
"Clothes make the man.  Naked people have little or no influence in society." - quoted in More Maxims of Mark, Johnson, 1927

Shopping for Fall...My Living Room Fall Make Over. Small Touches

Fall is here.  This is my favorite time of year.  I was looking over my living room and realized I needed to boost the feel of fall in my home.  I found this photo on a google search and decided to do a bit of shopping to make my home feel like fall.  Let's go to Amazon to see what we can find....If you are interested in any of the items just click on them and it will take you to Amazon.

Yes I would love to buy everything I found but alas I must stick to my budget.  So I am off to shop my closet right is what I found...I already had everything on the mantel and the small pumpkin on the hearth.  I bought the flowers in the basket at Michaels, if you look closely you will see the tags are still on...I better remedy that:-)

Road Scholar Vacation. NY, Mark Twain...

One of the many things I loved about the Road Scholar trip was all the education involved.  We would have lectures and then, after learning, go out and explore.  Even when we were out and about the teaching continued.  I was amazed by all the knowledge shared by our guide.  She was amazing. A very famous presence in NY was Mark Twain.  We learned a lot about his life and his writings on this trip.  Here are a few of my photos and some quotes, in italics, from Wikipedia.
"Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835 – April 21, 1910), better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American author and humorist." Wikipedia
He was born in Missouri.  Much of his inspiration for his writings came from the Mississippi River.
"...his pen name, Mark Twain, from "mark twain", the leadsman's cry for a measured river depth of two fathoms (12 feet), which was safe water for a steamboat." Wikipedia
"Elmira College has an extensive Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) arch…

Discoveries Along the Way.....Driving by Pilot Mountain

I was so excited.  I was about to take my first adventure with the Road Scholars.  I jumped in the car and headed north toward the Finger Lakes in NY.  I could just drive and not deviate from my destination but no, I am sure there are discoveries along the way just waiting to be discovered. And there were.   I had not gotten to far along on my trip when I saw Pilot Mountain in the distance.  Many folks I have met like to go hiking and camping there.  I would love to visit some time but this time I could at least enjoy the view....(quotes from Wikipedia are in italics) "rising to a peak 2,421 feet (738 m) above sea level,  is one of the most distinctive natural features in the North Carolina." "Pilot Mountain is part of the A.V.A Yadkin Valley, an American Viticultural Area comprising over 50 wineries, including a few wineries in the town of Pilot Mountain." "Pilot Mountain has two distinctive features, named Big and Little Pinnacle. Big Pinnacle (also called &quo…

Shopping for rings. Which ring? Which Finger?

What to do?  I have been wearing the same ring on the same finger for 37 years.  Then my husband decides to  leave and the ring comes off.  If I now, as a separated woman, want to wear a ring on my left hand which is the  proper finger?  I consulted google....
I found a website Love to Know(LTK) which seemed to hold the answer I was seeking.  Plus I will insert some rings  I like from Amazon...
"From your marital status to your profession, your rings tell a lot about you. Some fingers have special meaning while others don't mean anything at all."
LTK $24.99, marked down from $124.95, good deal!

According to LTK, a ring worn on the left pinky could mean Mafia connections.  I was not planning on wearing one on my pinky but maybe if I do it will command respect:-)

$35.00 marked down from$139

In most cases, the left ring finger denotes marriage.  So I will avoid rings that look like engagement rings or wedding bands on that finger.
