Exploring Kathiey's World...Moses Cone and Bass Lake, NC Mountians

Image
Joe and I love the mountains.  We have been countless times and usually end up in the same place...The town of Blowing Rock and its surrounding parks and trails.  We went earlier this year trying to plan our visit around the beautiful Rhododendrons that grow wild and are a glorious site if you see them at their peak.  That being said we did not see many in the wild but did see some lovely ones in town:-)   Here a few pictures from our visit....
Whenever we are in Blowing Rock we take off for Bass Lake for our morning run.  I usually jog around the lake once and then walk around taking pictures of what ever I come across while Joe runs up the mountain to the Moses Cone house and then runs back down to meet me by the lake....good times! Here are a few pics from my walk....(Have you ever been chased by a large goose? I have, and it is not fun. Lucky for me this gigantic goose was friendly or at least tolerant:-)

“He has also set  eternity in the hearts of men.”  (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV)

A duckling wants to swim: well, there is such a thing as water. Men feel sexual desire: well there is such a thing as sex. If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. If none of my earthly pleasures satisfy it, that does …

Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square PA.

A new tradition that we have developed with Bruce and Joe's family is exploring their local area.  When we go up to visit we now go on adventures.  When I was growing up my Mom spoke often of how much she loved Longwood Gardens. She talked about the beautiful flowers and plants and the amazing decorations during the holiday season.  The gardens are in Kennett Square Pa, not too far from Felton, so we filled up the gas tank and took off on a beautiful drive north....I will put some quotes from their website between my pictures....

"Longwood owes its present-day success to the Peirces, who actively pursued a Quaker interest in natural history. By 1850, the site was known as one of the finest collections of trees in the nation, and one of the first public parks, and its aesthetic qualities were as important as its botanical significance."
"Pierre du Pont's purchase of the property to save the trees…
